What would a 4 door 911 look like?

I'd read about this car but until last Thursday I'd never seen it in the flesh.

Of course it's not in fact anything to do with a 996 or indeed any 911.

What is strange is that it was actually a prototype designed in 1988 so it pre-dated the 996 by 9 years.

It was called the 989 and would have been powered by a version of the V8 found in the 928.

I can't believe it took 21 years for Porsche to finally come up with the Panamera and that they managed to make that car look so ugly in comparison to this one.

Very 996 like from the rear ..........................

............. But they went for a more traditional look for the front.

I like it

If I had my own body I would have given it a co with an early 996 🫲🏼

Yep, looks good ... nice proportions and purity of line.

I saw this at goodwood a few years back, thought it was a design study for the 996 until I did a double take at the back doors. Very 996-like in the metal.

The rear seat passengers would still bang their heads on the roof...just saying.

production details that would have been ironed out as they did with the Panamera

Makes you wonder if they launched the Panamera but as a 911 saloon, how the universe would reacted to that

I guess it’s all about where the engine is …

This car is currently in Peterson museum LA, Porsche theme there until April, I was there a couple of weeks ago.
that museum looks amazing, so well kept
