How long should a battery last

As the title suggests I'm just a little surprised how long my Bosch battery has lasted. I bought the car (2003 Boxster 986 S) in Jan 2013 and it's still on the same battery so minimum 10 years.

The car is my daily although not used every day and it is occasionally put on a trickle charger if it is not going to be used for a 4-5 days or more. Not showing any signs of being on its way out (although no doubt writing this will prompt something to happen).

Is this fairly typical?

Battery Life will always depend upon usage and care but I'd say that 10 years is good.

As it's your 'daily' I'd seriously consider changing it soon as you've had good use out of it and when they do go they don't tend to give much warning.

Cheers, I have a NOCO booster kept behind the seats so feel I'm covered for an emergency however I think you're right about changing it.

My volvo battery lasted almost 14 years, but it was in daily use.

The Bosch s4 battery for my wifes audi TT lasts less than 3 years as the car is only used for 7 months of the year and used as a spare out of the car when the car is sorned.

I have sent batteries back in the past but they always reject them with gummed up cells from lack of use.

10 years is good going, and probably helped no end by trickle charging.

Actually it is a minimum of 10 years as it was already in place when I bought it so could be quite a bit older. Either way it's good going and would def replace with similar.

I put a Yuasa battery in my 986 4 over years ago. It lives outside and is used most weeks, but can sit for 3 or 4 weeks in winter. No conditioner attached, and it has given no trouble at all. I'd hope a battery would last between 5 and 10 years.
