1) How long should a battery typically last? assuming multiple use in a week for short local type trips

2) Anyone have recommendations on replacement batteries - I assume no need for 'porsche official', given its not a car thats covered on official warranty anymore/the age of the vehicle ~12y old
I have seen Bosch recommended a lot, what is the difference between the batteries?

3) I have heard people use trickle chargers but moreso for other brands of cars, for some cars is it a necessity? or is it just good practice if you can for any car that may not get loads of use?

It seems to me that a lot of owners need a trickle charger as the car only gets occasional use.

The factory-installed battery on my other car lasted 14 years, and I still have a Porsche-supplied Moll battery in my 997 which is at least 7 years old (as I haven't changed it since I got the car in October 2015).

I seem to change my battery every 6 years or so even if I buy a Bosch S5 (5 year guarantee) over any other brand. I think the last battery I bought was a Yuasa for my BMW. All cars are on trickle chargers and most apart from the Mini are used just occasionally.

With the Porsche I did have to recently buy a new starter motor. I am not sure if you put more strain on the battery with a poor starter motor.

I think Bosch are expensive for what they are considering they do not seem to last any longer than a lot of cheaper brands.

I recently fitted a Varta F18 12v/85Ah/800A Silver Dynamic, part no.585 200 080 316 2
on the recommendation of another forum member.
Bought it from Tanya batteries who provided a great service but no reason you couldn't buy locally if available.
Car is usually on a trickle charger but I had reason for it o be disconnected for a couple of weeks and it killed the battery which was obviously on its way out.

My last battery was a Halfords one, it lasted 6 years so I replaced it with the same, 4 years guarantee for about £87, you do need to keep them topped up at least once a month and I dont set the alarm.

The battery in my 997.2 c4s died after 7 years, I bought car at 6 years and it died within the 1st year of my ownership.

Car has connector for battery charger/conditioner fitted now and is plugged when not being used.

Following advice from battery specialists I recondition mine once annually with CTEK charger. This is meant to prolong battery life. My car is a daily but after a week I notice that the battery becomes sluggish so charge.
