I've been cleaning the underbody of my GTS coupe and it really grates on my how rusty the exhaust is. It has the PSE but I'm considering an upgrade to Topgear for aesthetics.

So an X pipe to replace the Centre muffler and 200cell replacement for the manifolds. Only annoying thing is they need to use my car as a donor/template I think because of a new supplier. They'll fit for free if I buy the parts, but it's a mammoth trip down to Bridport from Leeds to do it.

Has anyone upgraded these parts and does the x pipe reduce low end torque for you? I'm not interested in top end marginal gains. Just don't want to lose bottom end grunt.

My one thought is how often do you or anyone else see underneath your car?

If it is only for aesthetics it seems like a crazy way to spend a grand.

Also they don't look too bad either

Thanks, mixed reviews on that product but I'll try it.

I'd do the centre bypass just to be able to hear the car properly, not for looks. Mine is not that design, so doesn't seem to affect power low down. Seems to add a bit at the top though.

I have been having the same conversation for a while

Tubi exhaust.....if I wasn't consumed by the resto on the 3.2 Targa, I'd have ordered a system for the GTS already.

Avoid the X pipe IMO.

Thanks for the replies.

Please elaborate drmark...

Managed to get the bumper off for a look and clean...

I doubt it, many use the cross independent bypass, design not a linked design though.

And said to have 12 bhp + 14TQ more. very common mod for a 997.2.

Esp on a GTS and the values of these vs a C2S, buyer says "not interested at top end revs" that's what the GTS is all about with the x51 and why I bought one after owning GT4's and detuned engines and missing my 9k revs GT3.

Sharkweks states " a real world 12HP and 14TQ gain" the dyno's up accross the rev range.

ALso the GTS only goes to 67mph in 2nd vs 85MPH in GT4's and GT3's so you get to see 7.5k revs in the GTS's also, some might say it's the best road car to come out of Stugart" :) (not my words)

X pipe means the linked ones. There is concern that the joined pipes can cause a drop in torque.

I have the TG Manifolds (200cell) fitted to a 2009 997.2 C2S with Sharkwerks X-Pipe and Porsche PSE. Plus BMC Air Filters.

1. Noticeable loss in Low Down Torque with PSE Open. Less so when closed. Must be sensitive to Backpressure

2. PSE Open, noticeable pull from 4k RPM to redline

3. PSE Open is ASBO loud...

Mostly drive with PSE shut for the above reasons. PSE opens at 3.3k RPM regardless of ON/OFF, so don't have any choice in the upper rev range

I'm off to GAD Tuning tomorrow morning in Essex to have a map done as the TG Manifolds are throwing intermittent CELs (CAT Warmup thresholds), so should have some before and after Rolling Road printouts to share on Torque and Power.

Should be relative results in a GTS...
