Wheel refurb - 997 Turbo

Chris at Excel is the only guy who will do them properly.

:?:

I'm sure there's other outfits that'll do the same or better.

If your car is going to be at OPC Chester, they can manage the job at the same Tim (an extra day to keep the courtesy Boxster or Cayenne).
Speak to Ian Williams via girls on service desk and he will sort it for you in one seamless manner for service and refurb.

I don't know what colour your car is 'hhd' but you might want to de-bling the wheels by having a darker lacquer applied.

I didn't like the polished finish on mine so when Exel refurbed them I went with a more subtle finish.

Personally I think the original bling finish only works with black cars.

The Wheel Specialists have come back with £135 (+vat) a wheel and a four day turnaround - so my idea of getting them done with the service doesn't work.

I'll try Cheshire's idea of asking OPC Chester and see what that turns up, otherwise, I may go for the de-blinged approach from T8 through Chris. My car is Atlas Grey and they are TOO shiny.

Thanks all

How much do Excel charge?

No idea, was hoping that someone might have given an indication. I'm sure that Chris does a fantastic job, but other than the peeling lacquer, mine are ok and I'm not sure that they need to full on service which Excel do....

Happy to have my mind changed though

OP: If it cannot be while you wait, I recommend a phone call to Dave Yeomans at Road and Race Restorations. They will issue a loan car for the full duration of the refurb. Also can be done via Ian Williams at OPC Chester. Road and Race will collect your car from OPC Chester and drop off a car for you for when your car is serviced and you drop off the OPC car.

They will drop your car off at OPC Chester and you leave the R&R car at OPC.
OPC will inspect the refurb and inly call you when they are happy with the quality. Seamless, hassle free and full warranty.

Choices, choices.

PS No drop off or collection charges from OPC for Road and Restoration work.
Its all part of the service.

Helps the decision making if people quote prices.

I pm'd him nearly 2 years ago and I'm still waiting for a reply!
Personally I would deal with Lepsons directly. :thumb:

The centre caps Porsche sell are rubbish as a side note. Less than 2 years old and already beginning to turn. Next set will be eBay specials.

Don't think there are cheap ebay versions of the standard 997 turbo shadow chrome wheel centres.
agreed ebay all day for the coloured crests they do fade but at £9 a set a year

PS. +1 for lepsons £95 +VAT for diamond cut /19" wheel and they pick up and deliver for free

Had exactly the same issue as the OP on all 4 wheels. Decided to de-bling them and have them done in satin anthracite:

Chose to use Rimstock in West Bromwich as they put them through the same production line as their other motorsport wheels. Cost £77 +Vat per wheel.

10 day turnaround, but well worth it. :thumb:

The challenge with dealing with Lepsons directly is how to get the wheels to them and keeping your car on axle stands throughout the duration of the refurb. There are additional costs also - courier charges, possibly removing and refitting tyres charged by Lepsons or your own tyre fitting centre.

Costs are budgeted on roughly £100 inc VAT per wheel. Special finishes such as diamond-cut will be extra. Most centres will be similar prices taking total costs into consideration.
