Truck ploughs into parked Porsches in New Zealand

A truck has ploughed into a Porsche dealership, injuring two people and damaging several luxury cars in the Auckland suburb of Newmarket.

Emergency services were called to the crash involving at least six vehicles at the Porsche showroom on Great South Road at about 11:30am.

Inspector Lou Alofa said the driver of a truck and trailer unit had lost control and hit five parked cars outside the showroom. St John's ambulance spokesman James Ihimaera said one person was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Another person with moderate injuries had to be freed from their vehicle by the Fire Service, Mr Ihimaera said. Local worker Paul Scotting said the scene was "like a plane crash". He said it appeared the fully laden truck and trailer had hit a van doing a U-turn on the busy arterial road.

The truck and trailer then lost control and smashed into another truck unloading a Porsche at the luxury car dealership, Mr Scotting said. That Porsche had then tipped off the truck into another car at the yard, he said. "It's carnage," he said.

Mr Scotting said the van involved in the initial collision had been shunted across the road into the side of a parked BMW. Two more cars, including another BMW, had also been damaged in the aftermath of that collision, he said.

About 10 police cars along with four fire engines and multiple ambulances attended the scene. Hundreds of people gathered near the Porsche dealership. The crash caused major traffic delays.

"Red people mover pulled out to do a u-turn across great south road, got collected by the yellow truck, which in turn collected a flatbed tow truck unloading an Astra . The guy unloading was inside the Astra on top of the flatbed and both trucks got shunted 50m down the road gouging out heaps of road and collected a few Audi's along the way, before coming to rest in the Porsche used car lot, and the Astra flew off the back of the flatbed through the Porsche sign and landed on top of a 911 Turbo.

The people mover got slammed down great south road, mounted the curb and took out one of our customers cars before crossing the road and taking out our white X3."
