Is my engine normal

Ed, I've been a bit disappointed with the 200 cell cat conversion in that I haven't really noticed any difference in the exhaust noise! Would have liked to have heard more so will be surprised if I get pulled in! We'll see....

I swapped Cargraphic 200 cell x-pipes to Fabspeed 200cell x-pipes and it's a bit quieter but still louder than the std cat from what I remember. It feels smoother with good pickup from 3000 rpm. My mate Jim with a Cargraphic decat system has a much noisier exhaust especially when he ran Supercups, unbearable to my ears and a defo track day fail.
The remap will enhance the effect of the 200 cell cats and you will probably get a change of exhaust note. I set off another car alarm today so it's not too quiet

Thanks Jontt, I've been on to Wayne already. Will he be able to fix a Varioram fault on the spot or is it something that needs to be left with him/9M? I'll be trekking up from the Corswolds and was hoping to wait while he does it...

Interesting read, very similar to my day with Wayne. Couldn't find him to start with and a varioram isuue spotted and fixed within 20 mins. 340 quid if I recall for his full days labour. I get contractors charging me twice that to just attend site without doing anything!!

It depends what the fault is if there is one. The system works off air pressure and solenoids and diaphragms. He can bypass them to get the system to work for mapping as in my case and they are an easy fix after if 9M have none in stock. The diaphragms are common with the 996 and boxster I think.

Yea he doesn't carry stock of bits by the look of it so you'll get it sorted one way or the other and be on your way with a much better car.
Like any dyno day make sure as far as possible everything else is mint on the car ie full of fuel, tyres spot on, no obvious oil or water leaks etc then you have a fighting chance of a good outcome.

Had an amazing day yesterday at Bedford Aerodrome on the 3.5 mile GT circuit. Really explored the limits of the car!! Great place to do it as never felt crowded on the track and loads of grass run-off area which I made the most of! What a great car, the flat spot that had me worried low down was fairly irrelevant as the challenge was to keep working the gears and keep the engine on cam. Not something I managed to perfect by any means. The sensory overload of it all was quite overwhelming, each time I thought I'd cracked it and I pushed the old 993 to the limit I was well and truly put back in my box. This included what must have been a fairly spectacular tank slapper of a spin as I momentarily lifted off whilst flat out around the fast bend next to the pit lane. Had an instructor drive for a few circuits, he even managed to spin her on on one corner.

The one thing that was most impressive about the car was the braking. They were immense and stayed that way all day with no fade. I was gobsmacked how well a 20 year old car could go around so capably and when I managed to get a bit of rhythm, how fast it was compared to the mainly track specialised cars that were there yesterday. The pit lane was very varied, the usual plethora of Caterhams and Clio's which were all very quick. There was a very quick 964 which really new what it was doing, a GT3 and even a brand new Lambo Huracan. I was chuffed that I was level pegging with the Lambo but then found out he had to keep it in comfort mode to pass the drive by noise limit. No such problems with my exhaust despite a 200 cell cat conversion, which was a relief.

A few people congratulated me for taking the car around as they were aware how values have rocketed. Overall a very relaxed and friendly crowd and would recommend it to anyone.

i now realise that when on the road even when pressing on a bit, I'm well within the cars limits, to reach them on a public highway one would have to driving like a complete lunatic. But when pushed these cars are very capable but they're also unforgiving at the limit and will bite with very little warning. :worship:

Well done and glad you enjoyed it.
I lost the tail end on the road once with gf in the car you should have heard her squeal (the gf that is).
Not a lunatic but over inflated rear tyres (44psi in 17") and a rear wishbone bush that was truly shot. This happened the evening after picking the car up from a local indie (or should I say idiot) who said all was fine after I reported it was handling like a bowl of snot. Cath Burrows spotted it straight away so I now use her or her mate Kevin.
Must have looked quite dramatic full opposite lock round a roundabout which was not intended.
