Interior upgrade on the cheap

Just thought that I'd show the mild update on my 996.1,
Lapis blue car with a grey interior, I always felt that it was always a bit bland inside.

I didn't want to spend a fortune and was quoted ~£1000 to keep the same seats and change the centre panels to houndstooth cloth so came up with something significantly cheaper.

Eyelets with a royal blue material underneath. (Seats will get a leather refurbish later and I've already added some extra scrim foam to improve comfort on the seats backs and bases).
Seat belt change
Alcantara fitted to lower door panels and rear panel (I never liked the grey carpet)
Royal steering wheel Alcantara/Leather mix
Wood gear knob & aluminium shaft

I didn't want to go too 'showy' and the royal blue highlights now match the brake calipers, Eibach springs and adjustable toe arms.

Some pics...

No offense but my god those seats are horrible :nooo: wooden shift knob also seems totally out of place in this interior

I mean, its your car, so do what you want but, those seats are ruined.

It turns on the sprinklers in those blue holes!

Ha ha, no offence taken, I still like it! The eyelet blue is much more subtle without the camera flash, inspiration from RS sport seats and various resto-mods with a twist.
Only cost me £40 to try something different and if i decide to swap out the interior panels for Pepita/Alcantara it will probably cost me £500 now as I know how to remove/refit the covers myself. I still need to refurb the leather so the seats will be out again next Summer. The grey 996 interior is boring, I think it looks better in dark colours and I'm not a fan of carpet on the doors.
The car is solid, was cheap 8 years ago and is a driven all year round so other than maintenance I'm not going to spend a fortune on it. The suspension, engine and rust are all sorted and I've just repaired the Aircon but the car is covered in stone chips and the paint has faded. Maybe one day I'll make it all shiny again but the in meanwhile it's a car for driving and having fun.

Good spot on the switch, it's a temporary fix for my reversing light. I needed to replace the gearbox reversing switch years ago but it just crumbled and access is tricky so I had to plug the hole leaving me without a reversing light. One day the gearbox will need to be dropped and then it will be an easy fix but until the clutch needs replacing etc I've got a work around.

I've just got to paint the exterior in the colours of Tom Bakers scarf for the true Dr Who experience - exterminate!

Shame you didn't contact jonttt he's got a load of Metropole Moody Blue leather interior pieces he's been trying to shift for years. :what:

Just watching salvage hunters classic cars on Quest. Theyre at cobra seats (company) and they just shown the exact same. They did the seats on SW millennium falcan. They retrim and modidy seat shape on their MGA seats for £400 each and they've done a hell of a lot of work on them.

Some of their stuff looks amazing for the price.
