Handbrake rebuild

The handbrake isn't great on our 997.1 and there is a slight rubbing sound from left rear which disappears when the brake is pulled up. I think it has been backed off previously - hence the high brake handle (you have to pull it as high as it will go to hold the car) - so I suspect I am going to need to check / replace the shoes which are fouling.

Has anyone tried this themselves? Is it a big / tricky job?

Unless you are very handy with the spanners pay someone to do it.

I spent 4 hours giving it ago and it was a disaster.

BTW I service my 997 and just did all the brakes and discs but the handbrake shoes... forget it
