Portiacraft 997.1 Rebuild

Thanks all for the comments. Pleased to say I bought the car and have done 300 miles in 9 days of ownership. Its an addictive drive!
The guys sorted the car for me... new wheel nuts, fixed the rear seat catch, gave it a major service and MOT and sorted new plates, all in the week between seeing it and picking it up. I have been back to fix a rear registration light which I noticed wasn't right. The car is great and these guys will look after it for years to come I hope. This will be a 200k mile car at this rate! There to be driven!
Great to hear you have the car and are enjoying the 911 experience.

I have Wilkinson steel liners & the car was rebuilt in 2018.
Hasnt imploded yet.

Nice outcome! Enjoy it to the fullest 😎

I have steel liners too, was rebuilt around 25k miles ago by a well known builder in london, bores look immaculate, however does burn a little oil, but have been assured this is normal using steel liners due to larger tolerances needed for expansion, does yours use any oil

Portiacraft are very well respected, they rebuild plenty of engines. If the rest of the car is good, could make a decent buy. 2005 means lower tax and usually plentiful classic Insurance options if not your daily. It might seem an odd thing to mention but my 2005 car is about £800 a year cheaper to tax and insure than a gen 2. As it's a keeper, it will really add up.
I'm so confused with where the tax brackets change.

Excellent, thank you for that.

So looking at the top three lines on Standard trim, as an example:

911 (997) (07/08) 2d (1 Aug 2010 - 16 Dec 2011)£395.00£217.25N/A225 (Band K)
911 (997) (07/08) 2d (1 Apr 2010 - 31 Jul 2010)£675.00£371.25N/A242 (Band L)
911 (997) (07/08) 2d (5 Jul 2008 - 31 Mar 2010)£395.00£217.25N/A225 (Band K)

Cars from July 2008 until March 2010 and cars from August 2010 until December 2011 are Band K. But for four months in between they fell into Band L temporarily?

I'm guessing there is a reason? Rules changed and it took a few months to bring the emissions down?

It's all a bit of a game isn't it? I remember when I had my Mk1 Leon Cupra R and Seat launched the Eco range, some of the drop was down to the tyres fit from factory. As soon as someone changed them to other tyres they would no longer qualify!

Sorry for hijacking the thread.
