Engine Problem - Misfire Cylinder 4, 5 and 6 - 997.2 (2010

Misfire

Had this problem on my 2011 997S this week, had it checked out & showed faults as per photo, so ordered new solenoid from Porsche today. On way home orange engine light came on , anybody else had this ? Would the faulty solenoid cause light to come on ?
Cheers

Yup it can do .

At the end of the day you have a single bank misfiring .. you should be able to feel it at tick over and low rpm .. this should feel a lot better at above 3K rpm .

There are limited items that can cause a single bank misfire .. this solenoid is top of the list as its easy enough to change , its the most common fault and its not expensive .

You could move onto vario cam faults but for me that would be after this had been changed and the fault was still present .

other than swapping side to side you can't prove this solenoid is faulty .. i've tried .

Ive changed this valve for this fault on 996 .. 997 .. 997 G2 and 991/981 so far .

Cheers deMort. I have removed the suspect one today & waiting for new one from Porsche, will let you know if it cures it. Will light go out on its own when Faulty solenoid is replaced or will it have to be done with obd reader ?
Ps. Yes was lumpy as hell at tick over & reading this thread has saved me a lot of time, I would of been trying plugs etc first.

it would go out eventually once the car realised the fault was fixed .. that could be as many as 40 warm up cycles from cold .

I can't say for sure as i always clear the codes .

Cars sometimes react to fault codes as well so if not cleared the car might still have an issue .. i doubt it with this but with some items it does happen .

No guarantees this is the problem but as its not expensive and it fits the usual pattern then it's a good place to start ..

It's also possible the tappets them selves have stuck but we will save that thought for another day i feel :)

Misfire

Quick update, Hi lift Valve solenoid Has fixed my problem, £108.00 from Porsche, fairly straightforward to change, bumper & silencer off on affected side & it's there staring you in the face. Had to use obd tool to reset light.
4 new discs & pads all round, happy days.

Thanks @deMort for your posts on this subject. Last week I had misfires across bank 1, rough idle and poor form sub 3k rpm. Took to a reputable Porsche specialist who diagnosed tappets, 2.5k for the work. Changed the solenoid myself. Very straightforward to do.

Regards
