This is a continuation of the thread here in the Boxster section .. Please read .

Rear end control unit is under the passenger seat , if it gets wet due to rear drains blocked you will have strange electrical faults .. it doesn't take a huge amount of water ingress to cause this .

Basic check is put your hand under the carpet behind the passenger's seat / drivers seat .. if damp or wet then you have issues .

I've been trying when i have one of these in which is flooded to put the new control unit in a bag .. due to the floor design its not as effective as in the Boxster but it gives a bit more protection .

I say trying as its an extra service which is down the the mechanic .. i kinda doubt most of us actually do this . Foc basically ... but i've been trying .

A plastic bag will raise the level at which the water in the car needs to be at before it destroys the control unit .. as per the images its a simple Diy or get an Indy to do for a bit of peace of mind that a downpour won't cost you a large sum of money .

Trust me when i say its this which causes the issues .. a small blockage is fine in normal rain , a downpour and your in trouble .. i've tested this on a 996 and the system can just about cope with a downpour .. the slightest blockage and it WILL enter the car .... 996 or 997 .

The drain can block at the top which is behind the speaker but more common is the exit drain tube behind the front wheel arch liner still has the rubber grommet attached ..

This needs to be removed and the mud cleaned out .

Cover is the there for the same reason rubber grommets are fitted in the battery area drains .. to stop mice ingress .. Trust me if you have these they find other ways in so of no use .

Images below of what i've just done although the grommet removal pictures are of a 996 from way back .. i didn't take pictures on this car as it's literally just another water damaged car and i've seen so many i've lost count .

For Diy .. as per the Boxster thread .. silicone sealant in the bag opening will help .

If the phone module becomes water contaminated then a Most bypass is best .. you won't have phone use but you will have sound for your PCM .

996 suffer the same but this will stop the car from starting .. it's hard to stop this as the design is different .
