997.2 GT3 bumper on a 997.1

Does anybody know if the front end of the 997.1 is the same as the 997.2 bumper?

Looking to fit a GT3 bumper but I much prefer the 997.2 cleaner looks where the vent is blended into the bodywork.

I actually have the 997.2 DRL in my current car but I'm unsure if they are a direct fitment.

The 997.1 GT3 bumper has some plastic covering on the air vent on the top and I just think it looks meh.

Design 911 has the GT3 bumper I want but it says it only fits MKII.

That's a fibreglass bumper with a moulded in splitter, it won't last 5 minutes if your car is lowered, 10 mins if it isn't!

Really, I thought fibreglass was pretty strong. What's a better solution? Polycarbonate?

No problem with fibreglass if it's good quality and is laid up correctly with modern gelcoat etc, but it's not flexible enough for the splitter, and if it is moulded in, that's what it looks like to me anyway, it would end up looking quite shabby very quickly. The standard splitter is a very flexible PU, the motorsports version is even more flexible (and cheaper).

I have a GT3 front and lower splitter, which is fibreglass. I have standard suspension and you still have to make a call on certain ramps. I was recently detoured in London using Google Maps and it took me over at least 100 x 20mph ramps on side roads. I had just had the splitter resprayed after picking up other knocks - it didn't last 2 weeks :(

With the fibreglass there is no flex and the paint pops off. I was going to give it one more chance with a respray before changing to a flexible poly splitter. What I notice on many of the more modern front splitters is that they appear to be unpainted poly - similar to the lower side splitters. In that way I'm assuming you don't notice it as much as when the paint is chipped off. I would love to get feedback on this before I make a decision on which way to go.

Is it just the splitter that's the problem? Or is the actual fibreglass bumper a problem too?

You can buy a bumper here:

then get the splitter here:
https://www.design911shop.com/Porsche-997-Front-Spoiler-Lip-CSR-FA997RS/prod131538/

Which is a different material and says it's flexible, I'm assuming that would prevent the issues you're having.

If I had just a bumper, then used a polycarbonate splitter. Would it be okay?

I can't even find an alternative to fibreglass that isn't OEM. When it's OEM, you're looking at 2-3 grand.

To answer your original question as to whether a 997.2 PU will fit - yes it will, you will also need matching radiator ducts and 997.2 DRL's.

The actual bumper is fine. The issue is with the splitter. That also looks great when not scuffed. I have been looking at different splitters for when the inevitable happens after I get the splitter resprayed.

The other issue to consider with after-market is whether the parts fit each other - eg bumper and splitter.

I agree a fibreglass bumper is fine but it needs to be the type that can take an oe or aftermarket PU front lip and not be the type thats all fibreglass. but yes as Monster says gen2 will fit gen1 but you will need the gen2 rad ducts which from memory were about £140 each gen2 DRLs , you may also for perfect fitment need to fit GT3 wheel arch liners , or you may be happy with the tiny gap between the arch liner and the bumper skin , it is only a small gap. heres my old gen2 4S with a GT3 front bumper :thumb: alternatively have you considered fitting a gen1 Aero front bumper and lip they look the same deep profile as the GT3 but without the smile grille , see the first pic of an aero on my old gen1

I saw the aero kit being used on the CSR snakebite car. I can't seem to find one to buy anywhere. I also had the possible idea of buying the aero version and then getting a body shop to cut a vent into it to imitate the GT3 997.2.

I don't think this would work though since I think the 997.2 vent has slits inside it which would not be able to be replicated if somebody physically cut into it.

I actually just found this:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/273983894522?hash=item3fcab673fa:g:UGIAAOSwY2peYX-A

Which is Polyurethane. Is that a good material for something like this?
It's actually decently priced too.

The company seem reputable.

PU is far better as thats what the original bumper is made from , that one also looks like it uses the separate lip , but it is in gen1 style . they are decent guys formerly better bodies Motorsports and before they had a fire they were GT3tek, I have brought a few bits from them over the years ,but dont forget the import duty on bits from them. :thumb:

Not much help I'm afraid as we recently purchased
The car but my misses's gen1 has a gen2 front end so
It must be doable

Alternatively, I suck it up and just get the 997.1 GT3 front bumper style and just deal with that plastic style vent I don't like.

Seems like new DRLs, bumper itself, new radiators is going to cost pretty much double for the sake of disliking the vent...

My car is also black so it might mask the plastic vent a little bit better.
