However I did see a camera flash on M1 J26/7ish overhead gantry North bound last week even when the speed signs were blank.

Not seen that before...

I have always wondered if, when these variable speed limit signs are switched off, whether the cameras enforce the 70mph limit? I always watch my speed if I can see the outline of a camera behind the gantry, just in case.

Ive asked a few people and noone knows. No doubt one day I'll find out that they were never turned on. They have now covered miles of the M62 with them as well.
