Selling my 993 coupe

. A 993 is a 911, enough said, we all know what that means. It's truly beautiful - I think the most beautiful car ever made - and to me, drives and sounds as good as anything else. But I think the Boxster is also a magnificently good looking car, which deserves a second look by those who have dismissed it. I'd ask them to spend a day in a good one, with an open mind and the appreciation that they are driving a different type of car. They might be surprised.

I agree with your general point- but-I think many would be hard pressed to agree the 993 is the most beautiful car ever made!
It's 100% iconic and a 993 is good enough to take anywhere......+ beauty is in the eye of the beholder but is a 993 really nicer looking than a series 1 E Type, or a DB4 Zagato or a 250SWB or a Merc Gullwing?
Maybe 'for same the money' you can't get a better looking car than a 993!

Ahem, yes I got a little carried away there. Meant to say most beautiful Porker ever made... probably. Not sure it is quite as lovely looking as an E-type or the Merc. But is definitely a piece of automotive art. Aircooled engine is also the best sounding motor of all time... (possibly... it's all in the ear of the beholder). Much depends on what posters you had on your wall as a kid. For many of us, it was KITT, a red 911 turbo, Lambo Countach and Fezza Testarossa. The Porsche was definitely the prettiest of that dream team of cars.

Taking of MX5s, Mk3 design looked spot on to me. Seems they have ruined the look with the latest version. But at least Mazda have resisted the temptation to make every generation substantially larger than the previous one. How much bigger can the 911 get I wonder? Part of the appeal of the older cars must be the size. Small cars are, I think, much more fun. Having driven a Panamera for two days (courtesy of Chistwick Porsche), I'm in little doubt. I felt like I was captaining a small cruise-liner. So I can see the appeal of the MX5. In years to come, early Boxsters may be appealing for similar reasons. I sense 996's relative compactness will be on its side also in years to come when cars are all either massive solar powered automatics or tiny battery operated plastic things with no virtually no power at all.

If you don't sell it, you can stick it in my shed for a while in case you do miss it when you're fed up with sitting in the sun with a glass of the local vin rouge.

With you on the MT-09 Tracer..... having a test ride next week. They're great value, and nice and light... unlike my 1150GS!!

Envious of your move!

Will

Classic Peugeot or Citroen or something a bit rural and rugged like this perhaps ?

Looks like your car just went up for sale at Dove House?

Yes that's it. I had a change of plan with regard to how I am going to sell it. Dove House have sold a car on my behalf before and did a good job. The 993 has been my only car and having decided to sell I was becoming paranoid that some numpty would drive into me and ruin the the "originalness" of the car.

I am happier knowing that the car is safely with them and to leave it to the professionals to do what they do best. It also occurred to me that not every potential buyer has the best part of £50k kicking around to spend on a car so their ability to offer finance also made sense.

Good choice one I've also taken recently. if I were spending 50k on a car there is no way I'd risk a private sale :thumb:

Not interested in using Hendon Way Motors then with a pic by the (in)famous HWM wall :dont know:

I thought I would post an update to this thread and basically ask for some help!

The 993 has been with Dove House on SOR for almost a month now and not only has it not sold, there has not been a single enquiry about it during that time! I know August is a big holiday month with lots of people going away but I would have expected some response to the Dove House adverts.

Where am I going wrong? The price was reduced to £45,995 two weeks ago and still no interest. Please tell me honestly if you think it is still priced too high in the current market, and where you think it should sit. My car is as honest a manual varioram coupe as anyone is likely to find, has only done 71,600 miles, has 19 OPC and specialist stamps in the service book and looks and drives superbly. I have driven 10,000 fault-free miles during the year I have owned the car and spent well over 6k on all the sensible upgrades - C4 mounts, RS short shift, 17" Cups & N rated Michelins from Exel Wheels, front suspension rebush and geo by Center Gravity, Wayne Schofield remap with Carnewal RSR exhaust, driver's door check strap, paint correct detail, quality speaker upgrade and new Skinz sound insulation, spoiler bearing etc etc.

I am not desperate to sell the car but will need some of the money tied up in it to fund some necessities when I move over to France in October. Also, having taken the decision to sell I am reluctant to drive the car for fear of some mishap not of my making ruining what is a fantastic, original example of this wonderful car.

So in short I would welcome any constructive ideas that helps me realise a fair price for the car and pass it on hopefully to another enthusiast who will cherish the car as much as I have. Thanks in advance :)

My 993 4S was recently sold by 911 Virgin. I've known Tom there since I bought my first Porsche, a 944, from him back in 2001. I hadn't met Dan before but he was equally knowledgeable, enthusiastic and friendly.

Other than taking a bit of time (a slow trip through the body shop to have some paint on the underside of the front PU) it was all very smooth. I know they had a number of enquiries before the car was available to view, and someone came out to read through the service history while the car wasn't there. This suggested to me that they got some good coverage and had people waiting to buy. I notice they have now had 3 or 4 other 993s through so perhaps there is generally some interest.

I have no connection with the company but from my recent experience would happily recommend them and will most likely buy or sell through them again at some stage.

I agree with Arnaud sentiment it looks to be a very nice car so to me the stumbling block is the price so I think you need to adjust your expectations on what you would accept as a "fair" price

good luck

I don't think it's too high on the price, it's not a private sale.

I'm another with positive experience of 911 Virgin having bought 2 cars from them recently, one of them being a 993. I know Dove are well respected, but I suspect 911 Virgin shift more 993s. Having seen the rate at which they have moved some lovely looking examples over the past year, I see no reason why they would not do the the same with yours.
