I have a problem with the cd (single) player in my car (997.2 - 2011 reg.) in that it has stopped working, It is part of a PCM3.

The cd player won't eject the disc currently in the machine, or actually play the disc. I can hear mechanical noises - a sort of whirring coming from the machine, but no disc comes out. A message appears beneath the map on the PCM saying 'CD player has a mechanical error'.

Any suggestions on anything I could do here? I've turned the cd off and the car, but to no avail.

I realise there are PCM specialists out there, any recommendations?

OPC are indicating big costs re diagnosis and circa £3,000 to replace.

Thank you.

I had the same problem and I got it out by adapting a knife I had to form a hook type bit at the end. I then stuck it in the player, hooked the CD and wiggled it out. ZZ Top never sounded the same again unfortunately but other CDs played OK. :)

The OPC got my stuck CD out (Florence + The Machine was rescued) and installed some new satnav maps for Europe at the same time, but it wasn't anything remotely close to £3000, more like £300 all in, but it took a couple of hours.

Seems like yours just want to replace the whole PCM. :dont know:

I have had this before and if I remember rightly there is a reset sequence but I am sorry I can for the life of me remember what it was.

Bizarrely my cd started working again today and I was able to eject the cd as normal.

I can only think that the battery had previously been very low and subsequently recharged via trickle charge and perhaps this had caused issues with the PCM system.

Bullet dodged for now.

It was interesting that a specialist audio company wanted £150 to remove the unit and then diagnose and OPC's £180 plus vat.

The OPC had suggested replacing the entire unit for north of £3,000 and wanted the old unit in part ex!!

Thanks for the comments.
