My riviera blue 1994 993 C2

Love your car Toby and your write-ups of the journey and progress with it.

I do get very amused by some forum member's reactions to other peoples posts and their opinions of those posts, telling them what they should and shouldn't be doing to their cars!

Now don't get me wrong I'm all for having one's own opinions etc both good and bad but for me having been on this forum for a relatively short period of time, there does seem to be an air of superiority, entitlement and backhanded comments to some peoples posts.

I think there are a lot of pent up, insecure, low self-esteem issues amongst some members judging by their comments!

It's like yeah I bought a 993 10 years ago when they were £25k and now they are like £60k and only take them out once in a blue moon, for fear of putting miles and spending money on them. I mean why people talk about other people spending money on their own cars is just ridiculous to me, if you are that bothered then you probably should have tried harder at school! lol

Keep the posts coming Toby ....

Toby, love your posts and passion for your cars. But at the same time I can also understand Wozy's post as its obvious that Toby's passion and willingness to spend money on his car is at the far end of the scale of whats actually required to maintain and enjoy these cars and to some people it will seem illogical. Hopefully Toby is not upset by that point of view and is content to own what must be one of the nicest 993's in the world :thumb:

Toby,

Just ignore him he has a car with a blue dash rather than a blue exterior :floor: As for Wozy's comments, part of the reason I only post now about football (and to abuse Jon)

I've been away for a couple of days and look what's kicked off, and started by Wozy of all people. As an owner of a high mileage C2 that I use in any weather I've really enjoyed his practical posts during my 5 years of 993 ownership.
As usual I suspect Wozys comments were well intended, however as often happens with the internet they read more harshly.

I hope this doesn't put anyone off sharing their 993 journey and opinions. We all learn from them. And this is nothing like some of the bust ups I've witnessed on Pistonheads Porsche sub forum.

Thanks for the comments and feedback. I'm happy to share my car adventures with our (mostly) great community. I appreciate not everyone agrees on everything, same as no one agrees what's the best 911. That's what makes these cars so fun. Different opinions make life interesting.

My only ask in return is to keep this thread friendly, constructive & respectful (even if you disagree how I should be spending my own money). Thanks.

I will share more as this 993 story continues...

Toby

To lighten this thread up again, yesterday I finally met the topless riviera sibling of my 993. I've seen photos of this car over the past years, and now I've finally met the owner Jon at Exclusively Porsche event at B_Road Hunting Club in Lewes, East Sussex.

Jon - was great to talk and hear your car's back-story, also on your 997 GTS. Great taste!

Weather was amazing, and tons of great cars and people. Fun times, and great drive there & back too

Wow - now that is VERY cool !

Good to meet you too Toby, and a good drive down and back with the roof down!
Apols for the dirty state of the car but using it quite a bit at the moment. :)

Glad you had good trip back Jon - I love a convertible in the sun. And you'll get no complaints about it being a dirty due to lots of use :)

It's been a while, time for an update...

I picked up BLU last week, so it's back home again looking & feeling great. It's been away at JAZ for almost 10 months completing its underbody restoration project which took longer than expected due to supply chain issues, covid staffing issues, etc.

It's also had various other bits and pieces during this time as preventative maintenance & minor enhancements:

- 993 RS fan hub & single belt conversion
- 993 RS engine mounts
- oil thermostat & lines
- lower cam covers
- drive shaft
- plus lots of other minor bits & pieces along the way

Supply chain delays were the biggest challenge as car was being put back together, needing a part, waiting for it to arrive, then continuing until another out-of-stock part was required, etc.

It was great to go and pick it up again, and as always take some time to talk to Steve Winter about all the wonderful cars he always has around the place. It's an Aladdin's cave of classic Porsches & fascinating restoration projects. Steve knows so much about these cars so it's also a great learning experience.

Now back home again, until next year :)

You sir are a perfectionist. I like you style. Actually I love it 8)

Nice attention to detail.

Always evident on work in areas that people rarely see.

Yes it's not surprising how few people take a very close look at the underside of their cars. Out of sight, out of mind. Yet it's the area that receives most wear and tear from the road, but also the least bang for your buck it terms of tangible return. At least this car is now totally sorted for very long time 👍

I've been chatting for some time with great guy ch3tman and some of our other 993 buddies about getting our unusually coloured 993's together. We always seem to get 1 or 2 at some event, but never all in same place at same time. There's not so many brightly coloured 993's so it sounded like great way to celebrate these fantastic cars.

So date was set for Aug at Caffeine & Machine. Logistics were tricky but by some miracle we all arrived from our various locations around UK & Canada, together with Lee, plus reviewer Kyle Fortune and photographer Steve Hall.

What a fantastic day! We had a great time having plenty of laughs with our cars.

Total 911 edition 223 is out now for anyone that wants a read. Here is small selection of our non-professional photos to give flavour of the amazing day. Lots of 993 love â¤ï¸ðŸ’›ðŸ’™â¤ï¸

(warning before any comments: these are all modded 993's to various degrees & that's the way we like them which is also the focus of the feature)
