Concerning find in oil filter (IMS?)

Same here. My filter was similar to yours, so as it currently stands I'm putting some miles on the car then checking it again.

Think someone else asked this but how practical is it to change only the filter to avoid a full oil change? Presumably I'd just need to get a new filter housing as well and have that ready to go in as fast as possible after removing the old one and then top up whatever oil was lost in the changeover?

Or is this just not possible to do?

I did this several years ago and from what I can remember it was easy with just the original filter housing, oil didn't pour out which surprised me. The housing will be full of oil so don't spill it.
