Hi just wondering what new friends on here think of this? Great pedigree and has everything I want. But 71k miles is holding me back. Would be driven to work a couple of times a week. Prob 5k miles annually. Any thoughts welcome!

Thanks

My advice, that’s the ideal mileage to pick one up at as it should have had most of its major servicing bar the pdk at 12 years. Cars at 30-40k generally haven’t had as much done and not enough to expose the annoying change over valves that seem to fail around that mileage. Check the service history thoroughly, make sure it is up to date and has at least the last service carried out by Porsche, make sure the 6 year service was carried out too, speak to your local Porsche dealer and get it in for a 111 point inspection at the expense of the seller as a conditional offer that any faults found will be rectified, make a plan with them for getting the warranty added on 3 months after ownership - that’s the earliest you can get it covered after another 111 inspection.

Then relax and enjoy it knowing the Porsche warranty that is pretty comprehensive and I’ve claimed about 8k from after only 4 months is there to cover those annoying covs and that little leak from the pdk that is inevitable at some point. If you’re lucky you won’t need a new ecu like me or the o2 sensor amongst other things.

Mid to late January is going to be a great time to negotiate based on past experiences and you should be able to shave a good few k off of that.

Great advice. The seller is Northway who have a fantastic reputation and from experience Ray is good to deal with.

That’s worth more than all of my advice if the seller is recommended and a decent person, can’t go wrong with that combo.

That sounds like great advice.
What are the change over valves?

See the below link, it explains it quite well and I had two go in my first 4 months of ownership, 1 sorted by the seller the other under my Porsche warranty.

Lovely looking car. :)
As Johny99 says, go the OPC warranty route which can offer you cover up to 2028.
Good luck.

Thanks so do I just ask the dealer if they will take it to Porsche for a health check? They do this themselves as a specialist so presumably won’t be too keen?

I bought mine from Ashgood and they were only too happy to take it to OPC Reading for a 111pt check on the understanding that I would pay for that if I didn't buy the car, fair enough. Reading flagged rear discs and pads which were replaced at no cost to me. I basically put in an offer which included the cost of the OPC check and fault rectification. It was already under warranty but I assumed the previous owner had cashed in the balance; in any case Porsche do require the transfer of warranty from private owner to private owner. It's the 90 day period you have to go through before you can get another Porsche check and proceed with the warranty that you carry a little risk, but a company like Northway should have a fairly comprehensive warranty to tide you over.

Another Ashgood buyer can recommend them over here

@stonerose - I bought my 991.1 Turbo S from Ray at Northway about a year ago and the experience was fantastic / painless.

Ray is a true gent and a pleasure to deal with. My experience was that OPC's are funny / inflexible about working with independents and supporting the 111 point check being carried out. Ray was upfront about this and he was happy to make the car available for any inspection. Ultimately I bought it on the basis of Ray's reputation and did the 111 point check myself after the 90 day wait period. The car was described by the OPC as immaculate and a credit to the previous owner, pretty sure the only thing we needed to do was clear out the drains under the windshield.

Happy to recommend Ray / Northway or discuss further if you have any other queries.
