98 C2 black rear calipers

Hi all, well it looks like I might have found the issue with my brakes needing pumping up after replacing rear brake pipes and lines when I had the gearbox out.

One of the bleed valves in the nearside rear (left) caliper has stripped the threads in the caliper. It was a pain to undo and the valve was blocked until I threaded some lockwire through the holes to clear it.

It wouldn't torque up and on undoing it, the remains of the ally thread were wrapped around it.

The plan now, is to try to Helicoil the M10 x 1.0 thread with a Helicoil repair, but this will be tricky as the bottom of the hole is slanted to the shape of the bottom of the valve, so I need to keep the drill well away from this.

If all else fails, it's the black calipers from a 98 C2 and they're around £600 new. Does anyone have any other ideas for second hand replacements, as Ebay isn't throwing up any of the Black C2 ones from that era. Part number 99635242103?

Cheers.

I'd recommend a professional repair. You post the calliper off and they will put in a new thread and post it back to you. Essentially your Helicoil idea but with a proper thread insert rather than a Helicoil and without the risk of DIYing it. Far cheaper than a new calliper, most likely <£100. I'm sure some other members can recommend some one good for it.

I recently had all four callipers refurbished by Brake Calliper Specialists Ltd, they did a fantastic job and the callipers came back literally looking like new with new powder-coat and stencilled logos new seals and nipples etc.

I think all of the nipples needed to be replaced because of needing re-tapping or they were broken.

You can obviously just have what you want done and may be just have your nipple sorted, or take the opportunity while one calliper is off to have all four done.

I'm really fussy and I couldn't find one little thing I wasn't happy with therefore can really recommend BCS and the turnaround was really good as well.

On the subject of nipples, has anyone found an aftermarket alternative that fits? The Porsche OE nipples are like 20€ a piece, which is just ridiculous!

Yes, I bought stainless ones from Hel and they've been fine. I paid about £15 in 2017.

I had my callipers re-furbed by Pro-Callipers.co.uk , did a fantastic job and also supplied me with a set of titanium bleed nipples. Should never corrode like the porsche steel ones, you even see rusty bleed nipples on new cars!
Anyway they have been spot on and come in various colours should you desire.
I'm sure they are also available from the suppliers
