911 PSE Exhaust Hack aka the 'Gundo Hack'

There is a company called Hayward & Scott not sure where they are,

As for the warranty I was ok with mine and they knew it had been done, my gear linkage came undone so the car got collected from mine and fixed and they didn't batt an eyelid over the hack, and they knew about it. I'm sure they would have to prove the mod had caused the fault to void the warranty ?

Great feedback guys!

Rich - you look and sound pretty handy under the bonnet, not my forte!

I will seek a specialist and get it done!

Will check RE warranty

Cheers

Jackson street eh? That's where I bought  and sold  my skyline from Middlehurst - happy (and sad) days! Is that local for you, or did you have to travel far?

Lovely looking and sounding motor by the way :thumb:

Yer the GTR dealers is next to them, so did you own the R35 skyline ?
It's only about 10-15 mins from my house Newton-le-willows, warrington

Thanks it's my 1st Porsche, had a few in my family from turbos to caymans as my family are big on Porsches, would love a turbo 997 but will have to wait a while unless my numbers come in

I'm originally from Haydock and have lived in and around the St Helens area all my life until work took me over to Germany.

It was an R34 I had, a good few years ago (pics in this thread http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=72323). I remember the test drive up the linkway totally blew me away, and having tested a 993c2 and M3 only a few days earlier, it was the clear winner for its sheer turbo grunt (sorry guys!).

More recently I was tempted to go back for a 35 as they are superb cars, but I've always wanted a porker. I was aiming for a 2/3 year old 997.1 turbo manual but somehow managed to get talked into buying my current beast instead - glad I was!!

Who has 'hacked' their exhaust?

Hello,

After substatntial research on the net/forums/youtube I am considering going for the PSE/Gundo hack on my 997's exhaust. This is that operation where a 2" piece is welded between the two piees therefore bypassing the mufflers. Its effectively what the factory PSE does but staying always on.

So, I was wondering if there is anyone on this forum that has had this done in the UK?

If so, could you give me an idea who did it and how much it cost? I've had a quote for £440 +VAT which seems high given it should be a couple of hrs job. This was including replacing the clamps etc.

If anyone is not too far from London I'd also love a listen to your modified exhaust!

had these guys recommended http://www.zorstec.com/zorstec/why-were-more-expensive

but sold my 996 before getting it done ,
completed same task on many 911,s & offer different size conversion for different results , they will talk you through exactly what you want to achieve
got my 645 penciled in for a "vocal enhancement" with them next month

i had it done after much debate - will it sound like a suped up subaru .... - but in the event i have no regrets whatsoever - starting her up is a performance every morning - if i ever buy another porsche without a pse or this hack i will have it done straight away - they are just too quiet without - and yet driving along at normal or motorway speeds - no difference at all - go for it

I have PSE, so have no need for this, but just a brief word of warning to balance things.

From time to time, especially on long motorway trips, I do switch my exhaust off. It is a differant sound, but occasionally better.

You hear more of the induction roar with the exhaust on quiet too, which is also a great sound.

Plus, early in the morning when you are in a hurry through town, stealth mode is better. Don't want to wake the sleeping policemen!

However 95% of the time it's in loud mode, and mine sounds fantastic.

Thanks for the responses guys. The links are useful, will see to get in touch with H&S as well as Wrightune.

Stokie, how much did you pay for this and where did you have it done?

I got mine done at H&S for £300 cash, well worth the money, and when you are steady on the throttle the noise is not much different from what I remember.

I had 1.25" pipe, highly recommended.

Gave Wrightune a call and they also said £300 for the work.

So, sounds like the £440 my specialist is suggesting is a bit on the rich side, it does include new bolts/clamps etc though.
