Driver side window is only dropping at the rear edge, but window goes up and down normally on the button.
Any ideas or diagrams that may help before I start taking it apart?
thanks

Naff microswitch in door latch.
Need PIWIS diagnostic to confirm fault.
Replacement ain't cheap. Need latch mechanism and door membrane.
Around £500 inc VAT at independent specialist.

It has nothing to do with the microswitch in the latch, the window is dropping but just no parallel. Sounds like the glass isn't clamped properly on the front regulator glass clamp.

And the door latch mechanism is £25:

And the door membran £58:

Not that you'll need either of them to resolve your problem.

Thanks chaps. Had it apart, and it seems to be something with the regulator cable. When fully up, there is a load of slack in the cable nearest the front. Can't see that there is any way of adjusting for this, so I guess a new regulator is required...odd that it suddenly happened though...

At least you know what it is now. 👍

If the issue is like the one I had on my Boxster, it is repairable. The cable becomes slack as a guide wears away, I believe. I sorted it using, of all things, a bicycle brake cable adjuster!

I believe I found instructions on the 986forum somewhere, but basically you are looking to add tension to the cable behind the roller at the bottom front of the door, if that makes sense - there's a pic of what I did here (scroll across to second pic):

Do I now understand this correctly? There are two possible faults....

1. Microswitch failure. This would mean the window motor does not engage at all.

2. Cable slackness. This means the motor engages but doesn't rotate enough to move the glass.

The solution for 1. is a new latch, and the solution for 2. is to add a bike barrel adjuster to take out slack in the actuating cable.

I wouldn't bother with the brake adjuster trick as the regulator is obviously on its way out. If it breaks, it's 99% likely to do it when you're out in the car and you're left with no option but to come home with the window stuck down.......or the old lolly stick trick to wedge it up.

All sorted. Swapped out the regulator as the whole thing was looking a bit tired. Bit of jiggling to get the window alignment right and all works perfectly now.
Porsche tax on these seemed excessive, so got the new one from carwindowregs.co.uk for £80. Time will tell if its any good, but it did look identical to the original.
Thanks for the various tips.
