Hi,

I have a 2005 C2S 997.

The Tiptronic Emergency Run warning light has come on and car won't drive above about 40mph (with the D and 4 both flashing), has anyone else experienced this and typically is it a small or big fix etc? I have contacted the Garage and expect to take the car in when they have availability.

Any feedback is appreciated,

Thanks

Hi

Im not an expert on this apart from having a 993/996.2/986 Tips in the family, but low fluid levels can cause this, as can poorly adjusted linkages and faulty switch mechanisms leading the car to not know what gear has been selected.

I hope its something simple!

Without some fault codes its impossible to answer im afraid ... if the car has had a flat battery and been jump started then a possible reverse of the leads WILL have blown the tip control unit to bits ..

I can take photos of one at work showing that if you wish !

Did it come on whilst driving it or as you started it. Mine did this once when the battery was weak. Charging battery sorted it and its never happened again. Also is your Tip gear selector stiff - that's another cause. A small nut under the centre consul needs loosening a quarter turn to free it up or the cable selector fulcrum joint near the gearbox may need freeing off and lubricating. Worth checking before expense of gearbox oil and filter change.

Hi There,

I’m getting the same error. Have you resolved on your 997? My new “Porsche Specialist” is telling me to find a rebuilt tranny. Have a happy Christmas!

Hi
New member here, found your post.on a Google search.
Just had the same with mine. Kicked down to overtake a lorry, all gearbox selection lights went off and tiptronic run warning flashed up. Pulled over. Turned off car, restarted and all back to normal.
2 days later , 60mph in 4th and all went again but no warning message this time.
Taken into local independent who has previously serviced car to diagnose.
Various error codes with 'gearbox speed sensor' being main one.
Speed sensors not expensive. Alas, dropping gearbox, taking apart, then rebuilding and replacing main and rear seals is. Just been quoted £7000 .

Is the tiptronic a MB based unit? I had issues with my CLS63 and he usual fault is speed sensor -an easy fix compared to complete rebuild.
A diagnostic will confirm
