The Finn's 997 4S progress thread - GT3 RS Wheels

Once the new switch turned up I contorted myself into the foot well to change it. To do this I first removed the red cruse switch which just turns 90 degrees and pulls out of the bracket holding it, once this was out I did think about trying to unscrews the grey switch from the bracket but this would have been nearly impossible so then removed the bracket. This is held on by 1 x 10mm bolt, its a really fiddly job to get to but once I had it loose I actually found it better to get out of the foot well and sit on the floor with my back to the car door then reach back and undo the bolt blind, this sounds silly but it was much easier. Once the bolt was out the switch comes out with the bracket, you can then just unscrew it and swap the new one in.

Now you just need to replace everything, first I tried to get the bracket in the right position and put the bolt back but after a couple of fails dropping the bracket I just offered it up with the bolt through it then once I had a bite I then positioned the bracket before tightening. I went as far as I could with the back to the door method and then did the final turns with the spanner/ footwell contortionist method. Then back on with the cables, push and turn the red switch back in to the bracket and refit the vent pipe, turned the key and she now starts on the button. So I am happy with a nice reasonably easy fix.

Glad you got that sorted, but the labour seems a pain - literally.

As to rusty inner faces of rear brake discs, I was advised to 'drive harder'. I may only do 5000/year and I try to make them worthwhile, but I suspect that wet discs may be the culprit.

Carpet burns on my elbow and the foot well light does burn the neck a bit, but now I have done it once I know the facing away method works much better so it would be easier again.

With regards to the disk if its not your main car I think this is investable especially with our weather as you said.

I went for another wheel swap a couple of weeks back, tyres need swapping as the new wheels came with some pretty old ones but I couldn't wait to get them on the car, I have some caps for the rusty nuts but I might as well wait to do this with the tyres.

Super wheels but would look better either a lighter colour or some kind of definition. Would a silver rim work?

Never been a fan of all black wheels but most Fuchs / petal wheels can really shine with some silver highlights.

I was going to have them all silver but since getting them on the car I am liking the black look, front badge was the next step and I my go further
