Porsche saw robust growth in the 2023 fiscal year and posted a slight gain in deliveries. The sports car manufacturer delivered a total of 320,221 cars over the past 12 months. That’s three per cent more than in 2022. “Even in times of global economic uncertainty, our brand remains desirable and exclusive,” says Detlev von Platen, Member of the Executive Board for Sales and Marketing at Porsche AG. “Last year we benefited in particular from Porsche’s very balanced position in its largest sales regions. We will continue to optimise this harmonious market distribution.”

Further growth of Overseas sales region
In Europe (excluding Germany), Porsche delivered 70,229 cars last year. This is 12 per cent more than in 2022. In its home market of Germany, 32,430 customers took delivery of new cars – an increase of 10 per cent. North America posted 86,059 deliveries (+9 per cent), making it the largest sales region for Porsche in 2023. In China, the keys to 79,283 cars were handed to customers (-15 per cent). The decline here was mainly due to the ongoing challenging economic situation in the region. The Overseas and Emerging Markets sales region continues to develop positively with an increase in deliveries of 16 per cent. In total, 52,220 cars were delivered to customers there last year.

The 911 is one of the most popular models
The Porsche 911 recorded the largest increase of all model lines in 2023, with an increase of 24 per cent. The 911 was delivered to 50,146 customers worldwide. The Taycan also posted double-digit gains, with 40,629 customers taking delivery of their new car (+17 per cent).

The model with the highest number of deliveries was the Cayenne. Examples of the SUV were delivered to 87,553 customers last year (-8 per cent). The decline compared to 2022 can be explained by the model change – including the staggered launch of the new generation worldwide since the market launch in April, as well as a software update for the hybrid models to ensure the best possible quality. The Porsche Macan was delivered to 87,355 customers and thereby remains at the previous year’s level. In the last year of its life cycle, the outgoing generation of the Panamera posted 34,020 deliveries. The new generation of the luxury sedan, which celebrated its premiere in November, will be available to customers from 2024. The 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman models posted 20,518 deliveries (+13 per cent).

Looking ahead at 2024, von Platen expects a challenging year: “We’re laying the groundwork for the future and are updating four out of six model series – that’s more product launches with staggered deployments than ever before in a single year.” The Board Member for Sales and Marketing also expects market conditions in China to remain challenging. “It is therefore important that we continue to balance our sales structure and strengthen our overseas regions, particularly in the ASEAN markets. In 2024 we will focus more than ever on value-oriented growth and a stable sales level.”

Customer-focused network helps Porsche Cars GB to grow in 2023

Porsche Cars GB is starting the new year powered by the momentum of strong sales across the range of luxury sports cars in 2023, with growth of 33% year on year, and a record 1.3 % market share. In total, the Porsche Cars GB network sold 24,751 new cars in 2023 in the UK and Ireland (UK only: 24,241 source SMMT).

At its launch in 2019, the all-electric Taycan became the benchmark in its class. Since then, the UK and Ireland has become the leading global market for the four-door EV sports car, with over 8,000 cars delivered to customers last year. Combined with the sales of the plug-in hybrid Cayenne SUV and luxurious Panamera saloon, the share of electrified Porsche sports cars was over 40%.

The popularity of the Macan compact SUV also remained high, accounting for just under a quarter of UK sales in 2023. Later in 2024 the all-electric Macan will arrive, alongside the petrol-powered Macan that will remain on sale in the UK.

In its 60th year, the flat-six rear-engine 911 set a UK sales record. The appeal of the luxury sports coupe, renowned for the agile Carrera and iconic Turbo models, shows the car’s continuing allure to customers and fans alike, as well as the breadth of the Porsche product range.

20 award wins in 2023
Porsche won over 20 awards in the UK in 2023. In the core Porsche heartland of the motorsport-bred 911, enthusiast magazine EVO placed the 911 GT3 RS first in its revered annual Car of the Year contest. And The Sun newspaper celebrated the 60th anniversary of the iconic coupe by presenting the 911 with its ‘Legend Award.’

The new-generation Cayenne arrived in 2023, but the prior model still proved its mettle in the Caravan and Motorhome Club Tow Car of the Year test. The Cayenne E-Hybrid won its class and pulled away the overall title as Tow Car of the Year.

These achievements were crowned by Porsche being voted top car brand in the 2023 Driver Power survey, the annual review of UK car owners’ opinions published by Auto Express, for the third year running.

Accelerating with confidence into 2024
The Porsche three-pillar powertrain strategy comprises high-performance all-electric drives, plug-in hybrids and efficient petrol engines, and delivers enduring emotional appeal and relevance that is widely recognised by enthusiasts and media. This will continue this year, with models to launch in the UK including the all-electric Macan alongside a new Taycan, joining the next generation Panamera and further models of the new Cayenne which already made their debut in 2023.

Consistent with its continuing priority on customer service and fan engagement, Porsche Cars GB is focussing on imaginative and engaging retail formats supported by a strong Centre network, including the extensive roll-out of a series of new and distinctive Destination Porsche showrooms.

The support delivered by the nationwide network of 46 Porsche Centres is fundamental to the UK sales performance in 2023, and continued investment underlines the commitment to providing the best introduction to the Porsche brand. Following the success of the immersive ‘Porsche Now’ pop-up shop in Battersea Power Station in 2023, there are plans for further ‘Porsche Now’ venues this year.

“These achievements are first and foremost a reflection of the passion of every customer who chooses to drive our sports cars, as well as a reflection of the hard work by the Porsche Centre network across the UK and Ireland,” commented Krishan Bodhani, CEO Porsche Cars GB. “I am also proud of my colleagues at Porsche Cars GB for their hard work.”
