I have the magnetic Rennkit one, it works well and is unobtrusive - however I'm not sure how well it would stand up to a datalogger and spirited track days...

You could go all OEM and fit a Porsche carphone mount panel, it wouldn't be plug and play, you would still need to attach something onto the carphone panel to actually hold the phone. But it would look good and certainly be stable.

Brodit sounds interesting, but looks quite big and from the instructions it seems that you have to stick it on?

I fitted a traditional phone mount where my Porsche OEM phone used to be, it was easy to find a 4xscrew mount and holder to fit in the same position once the original was removed. If I was doing it again I'd get a lower profile mount but im happy with it.

I'm not sure it's worth buying and installing the OEM side cover where the phone mounts if you don't already have it.

Sorry, I realise this isn't very helpful if you don't have the original oem mount.

Here's a picture of it.

I picked up a cheap (non magnetic) rennline one from ebay, & replaced the ball mount with an ESR magsafe ballmount. It uses a standard 17mm ball/socket, so you can replace with something else if you prefer.
The ESR magsafe mounts are pretty strong & easily cope with heavy new phones like an iphone 13 pro.

You could skip on the rennkit part & just use the one of the ESR mounts. They have a variety, some of which omit the charging part depending on your needs.

Alternatively, there is a chap on rennlist who makes these custom mounts that go over the hazard light switch, if you need it to be easy to view without looking away from the road.

details here:

sold here:

Incidentally the hazard mount has with a variety of options including quadlock, which STG raves about in one of his recent videos:

he also has a 10% off code mentioned in the text below that video.

I like that solution does the hazard bezel just pop out? I would be tempted to just drill and tap my existing bezel or glue in a riv nut to screw in a ball fitting there

Wow! Thanks for sharing all the info, that hazard mount looks great :thumb:

My car has a PCCM+ with carplay, so I don't use the phone directly while driving - but if I did (or wanted to mount something else like the OP) I'd probably get that over the rennline...the position is great.

Might be time to upgrade my rennline one with a ESR magsafe ballmount, I didn't know the ball/socket is the same size - many thanks! :)

bezel removal steps here:
https://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/Boxster_Tech/90-ELEC-996_Cluster/90-ELEC-996_Cluster.htm

I generally rely on carplay, so the phone position isn't such a big deal for me, but it definitely looks to be more convenient if you don't have carplay & rely on your phone for nav.
The Rennlist thread has more details, & implies he is looking to make some versions in other materials soon. I may succumb at some point.

Thanks

That looks a bit different and after looking at pics the boxster in the link does not have the switch bezel. Looks easy enough to remove though
