Oil level check 997 Turbo Mezger engine

When attempting to check the oil level I continually receive a 'car not level' response. I've tried various approaches including leaving the car in the garage (level floor) for 10mins after a run, trying numerous times in quick succession, trying immediately after coming to a halt (engine running for all of these) etc.

Suspect the sensor has failed, or loose wiring, but cannot find confirmation for position of sensor for the Mezger engine.

Previously (recently) the oil level check was working correctly.

I have read that there may be a separate sensor to warn of seriously low level. I have no warnings showing, but have also read that there is only one sensor which measures the normal level check and also triggers the low oil warning. If the latter then obviously this needs fixing immediately. Not sure which version is correct. The car is booked in for a service in July so if there is a separate low level warning sensor I'll wait. But if all the checking relies on a single sensor I'll sort it sooner.

Could do with some definitive info on this please. If, as I suspect, the sensor needs replacing, is this a job a home mechanic can undertake or does it need to go to my local Porsche specialist - who's very good?

Thanks for any info on this.

First off i'm going to have to say i've never seen that message so i can only guess here ..

Its possible it is the oil lvl sensor .. there are however other systems in the car than monitor the angle of the car so these also have to be thought of as suspect , im unaware of how these might be integrated into the oil level system .

A full control unit search and a fault code check is where i would start .

I would probably look at the inclination sensor readings .. it's sometimes called a combination unit .

After that then a replacement of the oil level sensor is a good start .. often when something cant be proven by testing we have to replace it to be able to move on .

These days if i suspect a faulty sensor that i cant prove and its in the region of £100 to replace then i will do that as its far cheaper than spending several hours Trying to prove it .

To change this sensor is going to be fiddly .. i've not done one but have found a link about it ..

Not sure if i'm allowed to post links to other forums so i'll do it but it might be removed by a mod ..

This shows what i think is applicable to the Turbo and its fitted at the far end of the oil filler tube .

No. 15 here will give you the part number ..
