Interesting take on the 996 and the C4S in particular. I'm sure will bring many comments & opinions, and that's the point. Especially when it comes to costs.

I do like the C4S in speed yellow, although would personally change the suspension set up for more compliance as I'm not a M030 fan. Lovely car & interesting perspectives...

There's a thread on here about that particular car somewhere. I believe it has X74 but JayEmm didn't mention that. (I may be wrong, of course).

It's a standard car, unless it had X74 retrofitted... I remember the car from the original Evo tests.

Good to see some positive comments on the 4S... I always find it a car that is more than the sum of its parts, love mine.

I cannot imagine how the owner ran up an £18k bill for the suspension build unless he used fancy non OE parts. Might also explain why he moans about the ride as the standard set up always seems OK to me.

*Facepalm* moment. I meant x51. The thread I was thinking of was about a yellow C4S that IIRC had spent time in Ireland, been through several traders and at some point had a x51 engine fitted. I've got a feeling the buckets went missing though (or maybe they were added?...). I thought it later came to light it was the Evo car. I may be wrong though, or confusing cars and threads. I've had a search and can't find what I was thinking of so happy to stand corrected!

I remember the car popping up on here with a new owner, who didn't realise it was the old press car... I told him about it and sent links to the Evo articles, and he went on to do a lengthy ownership thread:

The car appeared again at Bure Valley Classics a couple of yrs ago:

Ah nicely remembered - always good to see history of these special cars

Just goes to show what can be achieved with a good C4S when you spend a little bit on upgraded suspension and nav

Reading the Bure Valley ad again, the car had invoices for a full suspension refurb in 2019, including Ruf springs. Might explain the compromised ride.

I like the 996 C4S a lot - last Carrera with the Turbo body.

This car actually featured on Friends Green Porsche, who I understand have a bit of history on 911uk:

You can see the number plate at 11m41s.
Ah great spot! I knew I'd seen it somewhere :thumb:

I saw the C4S in question at FGP when I was buying my C4S from them. I asked them about it and they said the owner had asked them to do a load of work on it... suspension refresh being just a part.

I disagree about the ultimate 996. I think C4S with a GT3 engine would be better than a turbo with a GT3 engine. C4S rear end look much better.

Agreed. Were I a zillionaire, the Porsche sonderwusch program would be building me one right now.

The full sweep of rear light somehow makes the C4S rear more cohesive than the turbo. As for the spoiler, or not, it's the old GT3 or Touring debate - endless.

I'd definitely agree, a 996 C4S with GT3 engine transplant would be a wonderful, mythical beast.

A full leather interior on a 996 is a beautiful place to be too.

C4S on E88's looks the nutz ...

I'd stick with the C4S front splitter rather than the Turbo item though.

C4S rear end does indeed look good, but I prefer the slim-hipped narrow body cars, in much same way as I prefer the 964 RS to the 3.3 or 3.6 965 Turbo widebody cars, and likewise the 993 RS over the 993 Turbo/C4S/C2S.
