It was an excellent choice Tim and they look even better in the flesh. You'll have to stand in the High St and get Mrs Tim to do a drive-by so you can see what they look like :grin:

As for current trends well your keeping good company I guess; we've recently done 2 sets in gloss black for this Ferrari 430, a Cayenne Turbo S, 996 Turbo and a 997 Carrera S....and a Seat Ibiza is booked in next week. 8)

Great wheels.
My targa wheels need sorted. bad corrosion on the inside.
Did you have the rim bolts refurbed or replaced?
Did he take off the bolts and separate the rims?
Mine are rusted and I was told the using the same bolts back on may cause probs with achieving the correct torque.
I contacted Jasmine Porsche , who seem to be the only supplier of them but they are £4 each, so 24 per wheel is £400 for the 4 wheels, before the wheel refurb!

Not sure about the bolts, but I do know that Chris W at Exel Wheels did not think that separating the rims was a good idea.

I would definitely contact him for advice, he really does do a great job!

The Targa wheels are quite special and different to standard split rims. They are made by Speedline in Italy.

They are each bolted together with 24 x mild steel button head allen bolts and nuts to the reverse. The trouble with these is that they rust, and basically weld themselves together making removal a real challenge for a number of reasons:

a) the allen head becomes rounded as corrosion means the hex is enlarged.
b) you have to get a socket on the reverse of the nut which sits very close to the edge of the inner rim
c) the chances of bolts simply shearing is extremely high
d) and then re-assembly of the wheel to the correct tolerance is then another challenge

As as result as previously mentioned the bolts are £4 each so you could be looking at £400 just to replace, and you would be foolish to replace just some as it would look terrible. Splitting and re-assembly of these is extremely labour intensive so that why the cost is prohibitive.....

So we dont split. We have developed a special process to do these wheels that delivers the results in the photos you see above. This arrests the corrosion and extends the life of these wheels. We also maintain the original look with the bolts, all at a very cost effective price. Until we started this many owners were unable to get their wheels done and the corrosion has continued to worsen. The good news is that there is not one set we havent been able to return to a fantastic condition.

We have completed around 20 sets of these in the last year, probably more than anyone else, so we've developed a speciality in this area.

Exel Wheels miracle worker strikes again.

Two weeks since Chris returned my wheels I must say I continue to be impressed by the quality of the work which he has done for me. That alone would have been enough but for him to travel to Newcastle to provide this service is amazing. But even then he goes further by not only polishing and dressing the wheels and tyres but by giving the arches the once over as well (after gently suggesting I give them a bit of attention when he picked up my wheels).

A thoroughly knowledgable and nice chap who I would be more than happy to recommend to anyone looking for this type of service and if I ever find I need wheels done again I would definately use him again.

Before - lots of little scuffs and dings. Centre caps in shabby state.

After, smooth and shiney caps refurbed. But more work was done to the insides which were shocking and now look like new.

I wish I'd taken a few pictures of the insides as the transformation is brilliant.

Honestly you wouldn't believe that these wheels are 17 years old they look terrific. :thumbs:


The caps were also refurbed by Exel at the same time so they have had the same paint applied. I guess it must be the photo as they look spot on in the flesh.

Chris - did you get to the Dub fest at Druridge Bay this weekend. A lad I know from Alnwick had been admiring a Red 964 thinking it was mine!!! I was side tracked by a fathers day lunch and then it poured down so I didn't fancy rushing down just to get soaked!
