Morning all,

Looking at a potential purchase and the current owner has sent images of cylinders 4, 5 and 6 after a borescope inspection carried out by his local Indy.

The report comment stated light marking but not borescored. Would you agree? The car is an 08 with > 100k on the clock.

I’ve attached one of the images as they are all pretty similar.

I've seen people miss out on cracking cars in the past on various platforms due to comments from people saying one thing or another. If you are serious about a carthats 15 years old, you're best best would be getting a PPI done by a specialist. All the ancillary stuff like suspension, brake pipes, condensors, cross over pipes, etc all added up can eclipse the cost of an engine rebuild.

It can be really difficult to see clearly in these bore scope pictures as the quality tends to be variable, but that looks more like normal polishing marks to me in my humble opinion.

There is a lot of good info here: http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=128713

Thanks for the input so far guys.

It's had a fair bit of big ticket items replaced in the past year. It had to have an engine out job due to a RMS related leak so at the same time the following was carried out

RMS reseal IMS housing
Clutch
Coolant pipes - side of engine and x-over pipes
Brake Pipes & Calliper pipes
Front suspension top mounts

Is there any other big ticket items missing?

Condensers, tandem pump are ok / corroded / leaking :?:

Handbrake + drum ok / defective :?:

:agree:

A borescope is great to have, however, according to Hartech, the crankshaft may require replacing on between 100K and perhaps 150K. Speak to them for more detail. Hartech also produce an excellent Porsche buyers guide, which runs to over 100 pages. Ask them for a copy.

Hi

Those bores look fine to me. As for other items adding up to the cost of an engine rebuild, that may be true, but most things a competent home mechanic can deal with. An engine rebuild is another matter, especially as it will be a complete rebuild with the casings requiring machining and many new parts required. It's a difficult process and requires specialist knowledge. My brother and I have been successfully down this road so know some things about it.

As far as the crankshaft goes, I think whoever mentioned this above might have meant the crankshaft bearings or shells. These items do often wear, as do things like chain ramps.

I think if the car has been serviced regularly and has done more motorway rather than town driving it might be a really great prospect.

All the best

Berni
