Pork gets under your skin and I had the opportunity to change (upgrade?) my 2008 997.1 Turbo tip. I initially set my sights on a 2015 981 GT4 but was disappointed that Cardiff OPC wanted me to take one with a rear bumper full of filler (no price reduction). So I reset my sights and started to think about a much newer 718 Cayman GTS 4.0. Every review I read was 5* and I couldn't see me visiting a track very often so it seemed the better option.

I saw an Agate grey 2021 with 1900 miles on the clock and most of the options I wanted at Ashgoods and went for it. So was I foolish letting my 997 Turbo go?

I loved the Turbo. The shape to my eye is the best of any water cooled 911. My kids were gutted when it went. It's power was scary (but great fun). It was brilliant as a daily driver as well great fun on a spirited drive.

BUT I don't think I'm going to miss it too much having now driven 250 miles in the GTS. It's a completely different experience but just as good fun. It feels (and is) smaller, more nimble, with more compliant suspension and it's fast - not quite as ballistic as the Turbo but the n/a engine with its linear power delivery is sublime. Road holding on corners ... I'm still getting used to it. I felt very safe in the 4wd Turbo but the GTS seems to corner on rails and feels equally safe (perhaps it's the chassis & torque vectoring).

So, I'm still getting over the fact I don't have a 911 ... any model they're iconic BUT the GTS is stunning to drive... it just doesn't have the curves of a 997 Turbo.

So this is 911uk... am I still welcome with a Cayman??!!

Lovely looking car :thumb:

Cayman's are great, same size as on older 911.

There's loads of Cayman owners on here so you're in good company.

A 4.0 GTS is one of the few cars that could realistically tempt me away from my 997.1T so I'm interested in following your comments.

Nice colour too.

Scratch the itch and you can go back to a 911 :D

Congratulations, lovely looking car!!

It might not be a 911 but it's a gorgeous Porsche and the 4.0GTS ticks an awful lot of boxes.

Enjoy in good health :thumb:

Thanks guys 😁
Slayer ... I noticed on your history 997 turbo to Caymans & back to 911. Maybe I'm just behind the curve.

Went out in it again this evening just for the fun of it and to appreciate the bendy lights! They're a revelation in comparison to the lights I had on my 996 😎

Nice choice and looks great!

Congrats and enjoy :thumb:

Another convert, as long as there are 6 cylinders there's no way back now..... As you've discovered everything is better, and better things come in smaller packages :worship: Makes a 911 seem like a truck

Cayman is every bit the Porsche!
Congrats on you purchase although im sure you will miss the Turbo as they are very different cars

What a great looking and general performance car I had the luck to test one and it's just marbles, congrats!
I normally don't buy close cars as I'm a cab lover, but I have been looking around lately a bit and I'm not really clear a out if Cayman GT4 or Spyder 918 4ltr..

Very nice, those 4.0 GTS's are wonderful cars...

TBH, my neighbours son picked up a crayon grey 4.0 GTS around the time I was prepping my 997.1 C2S for sale and it piqued my interest...

I did some research, realised the 981 GT4's are similar size and weight as my outgoing 997, so man-maths took over and I decided a newer car with 2 year OEM warranty, 100k less miles on the clock and in essence a 911 engine in a smaller shell with a fabulous manual gearbox (and Alcantara steering wheel) hooked me in!

After 6 years of 911 ownership, my 981 GT4 is amazing and more in-keeping with the pre-991 911's where weight and size skews to old 911 sales pitch.

Not wanting to derail the thread but my 991.1 feels very rear biased compared to the GT4. It might not be the same level as the very old 911s but it most definitely feels different

OP looks good chum. Out of interest what Michelin tyre do they use on them?

There's the downside, were back to the old 20" Pirelli monsters on most. Michelins on OP's is a bonus. What great cars these are, you can get a proper engine without having to buy a GT3, in a new/nearly new Porsche, for me the newer 911 is just dead in the water. When you look at these on track compared to a 911 its just mad, and they are small, really small. Well look back at these in only a few years time and muse over when you could still buy a new non GT 6 cylinder.

I genuinely cant decide now whether to change the 981 GT4 to a 718 GT4 or the 718 4.0 GTS :dont know: Ive got a good deal on a 718 GT4 clubsport in RY with all the right bits, but its still a 90k car at the end of the day, and its still virtually the same price as retail 2 years ago with no depreciation. Obviously you cant get anything new without a big wait, if at all.

Its harder with a well specced 4.0 GTS as add the extras you soon get close to GT4 money and the residuals are much lower, and are the same with or without extras, raising the monthly close to GT4 cash. For me only a vanilla 4.0 really makes sense and I kind of like that idea :?: There's a few about now again at retail price as demos second hand from 1-2 years old.

The argument will rage forever on PDK v manual, but PDK clearly suits the car better and is commanding a huge premium at the moment. 0242 in Iraq I cant sleep :nooo:
