9m Ninemeister mid-weight flywheel for 993/964

For the benefit of the archives... below is my 'review' as posted on the Rennlist link found in the first post of this thread.

I'd rank this mod on par with a Wayne Schofield (ChipWizards) remap in terms of the positive impact it has on giving the car that extra 'zing' and increasing driving enjoyment 8). Those with the RS LWF will know the feeling by a greater magnitude! :) Recommended .

The flywheel has been on my 1995 993 for just over a week now; admittedly I've not driven as much as I'd like, and have covered around 40 miles of town and motorway driving. Enough to form an opinion.

Impressions:
In short, this is a fantastic upgrade for a street car! I'm very pleased I took the plunge . The best way to describe its impact is the car feels 'more alive' - especially in the lower gears, between 2.5k and 5k rpm - and almost as if some of the car's potential has been released . Must admit the freer-revving nature through the gears is quite addictive, and certainly makes the drive more enjoyable! For a more track focused or aggressive car, sure you could look to the RS LWFW as mentioned earlier in the thread.

A few statements to address specific concerns I had going in to this upgrade, that maybe others also have/had?
- The 9m MWFW flywheel is a direct replacement for the factory DMF
- No modifications were required to enable the install
- A new clutch was not required (in fact mind was only replaced a few of years ago), same applies to release bearing, guide tub, starter ring gear. See note below re: bolts
- Stalling: the car does not stall when the revs drop. See video below. There is no hunting at idle either (ISV remained untouched). Admittedly my 993 has been live-re-mapped on a dyno by the legend that is Wayne Schofield (aka ChipWizards), though this was not to address any idle issues but rather enhance the mid-range power delivery.
- Chatter: I hear no gear chatter in neutral clutch engaged or not engaged. Slight chatter can be heard if you labour the engine - - (for example's sake: 2nd gear, 20mph, 2krpm no chatter, but switching to 3rd you will hear slight chatter if you load the engine. Cruising at 60mph in 5th, no chatter, drop into 6th you hear slight chatter if you load the engine) - - something we shouldn't be doing anyway. I must emphasis the word slight, because I was consciously looking out for it on a quiet roads with the stereo off, with the windows up, CCU fans off. If the stereo was on I doubt any chatter would be heard.
- Feedback from my air-cooled specialist suggested it was a straightforward fitment, for someone who's au fait with clutch/flywheel work on a 993.

Learnings:
- Plan and budget for it.... it turned out to a costly exercise for me as with the engine dropped we ended up doing a full ignition refresh (HT leads, caps, rotors, spark plugs, ignition coils), cam cover, lamda sensor, exhaust head shields, etc. It would make most sense to go for this mod when you're replacing the clutch, from a labour cost perspective. 2 birds with one stone.
- Noise is subjective, so minimal chatter for one person may be too much for the next . I am running 200 cell cats and maybe that is drowning out what chatter others may hear on an otherwise stock exhaust? So, see if you can hear another 993 running a LWFW or indeed MWFW first if this is a big concern.
- My air-cooled specialist insisted on new bolts during the install because they are 'stretch bolts' with an 'elastic limit'. Not being costly, he strongly advised they are not to be re-used. Just something to be aware of.

Good to know Chet, thanks for the work on this!

Added to the to-do list....
