996.1 cab C2 manual

Mine sometimes does the exact same.

If it works on the button then i agree with Alex .. its an interference of the fob signal .. mobile phone , pylon .. later cars and the tracking fob can also do this .. big problem on the 991 in the early days .

It is also at the point that the rear side flaps should lower ( colour coded fabric covers each side ) .. i'm wondering if that has anything to do with it ..

The safety feature is if the flaps havent hit the micro switches at this point on the lowering cycle then it shuts down the operation to save any damage from happening .

Probably the fob losing the signal but a bit of a coincidence when its at this exact point in its operation .

Next time it does this then look at the flap in the image below .. is one side higher than the other indicating its sticking ?

A bit of spray lube on the sliders ( white plastic feet ) will often cure this .

I shall have a look.

Got back from Morzine yesterday so thought I'd see if I could have taken the road bike with me:

And whip it apart:

Offered it up and I'd have to pull the cranks, which I didn't have time for:

So in conclusion, if I was prepared to break it down a little more, no problem - but not quite as simple as I'd hoped.

Right - brief Morzine trip write-up, which was ~1,500 miles, 200 ml of oil, and more tanks of fuel than I want to think about.

First to Rambouillet to drop off the Mrs:

Then I went via the D996, D959, D928 (and some peage) to the dubious charms of the hotel Rhodos.

I picked up a Santa Cruz Megatower (the bicycle version of a racing monster truck):

And did a lot of this:

Which was great fun. Then I woke up to this:

Which was less than great, so a quick onesie shopping trip later:

And back out (things looked a little different):

Doesn't really come through here, but it was absolutely howling it down when I took this:

And then, being the mountains, it was glorious again:

Morzine is so handy for being able to pop into the town for lunch before jumping on the lift again:

Final day I rode with some friends:

And sadly my final day also saw a puncture that marked the end of my time riding, so I headed back to Rambouillet, picked up the Mrs and headed for the Chunnel:

The car was faultless, 10.8 litres/100Km with the roof up, 11.7 with the roof down, as at home using cruise control at 130km/h as it was charging down a D road at a speed I won't mention. I had a great time, and making it a small driving holiday either end of a riding holiday was a lot of fun.

I love driving these cars in France. So many good roads, so little traffic!

Yep, headed up to Super Morzine, then along to Avioraz, I'd probably do more on that side of the valley next time as Les Gets is really busy.

Those roads look mega!!! Thanks for sharing!! Wish I could actually ride a bike without falling off spectacularly slowly :(.

Nice one Neil! Great to see it out and about properly. 8)

I just got back from my trip on Tuesday night. Not sure where to begin with the right up and I'm back at work now. Full on holiday blues here. I just want to retire now.

Anyway great pics. The car sits so well in that first pic. :thumb:

Thanks Mark - I am very happy with how the car sits on it's wheels, the photo was when I turned back to have a look at it when I was walking into the house.

I picked it up today from Auto Audio and it was next to a stock 997 cab - which looked like it was on stilts, I could get my fist between the tyre and the wheel arch. Actually very surprised at how different the two cars looked.

The reason I was picking the car up from Auto Audio is that they've fitted the Focal sub:

(The wooden props removed after fitting and the visible face trimmed in leather).

And replaced the Hertz that were in the dash with these Morel separates:

They are Morel Virtus 402 4" two way speakers, for anyone who is interested.

Does it make a difference? Yes, massive - literally incomparable to how the car was before. I drove home listening to ill-communication by the Beastie boys and the sound quality was incredible.

To recap, the car has:

Becker Cascade Pro head unit
J&L six channel amplifier
Hertz 100.4 4" combined midrange woofer and tweeter in the rear
Hertz 130 5.25" woofers in the doors
Morel 4" mid and separate tweeter in the dash
Focal powered sub under the dash on the passenger side

I have just replaced the standard speakers in the dash and the rear for Alpines.
The door speakers are still the originals. Is there any real benefit in changing them?
Did you consider an under seat sub?

Cheers

mark

The Focal sub I bought is sold as an under-seat unit, but it wouldn't fit under the seat, so under the dash it goes.

I changed all the speakers as I wanted to make sure they were all 4 ohm, and I also got a bit carried away.
