Best Colour!

I'll keep the wheels Black for now as the painter will probably have a nervous breakdown if I go back and ask him to change them back to white, even though that is how it came from the factory.

As ever there's a few things to do but I've spent a day and half cataloging all the history and tracing back its origins. In some respects Trigger's Broom springs to mind as does 'natural patina' but clearly one previous owner enjoyed it for over 15yrs even though I suspect it emptied his wallet several times over.

I need to tighten the springs up in the seat base, despite having the seat on its highest setting I'm reminded of someone in an Austin Allegro with low seats and high doorline imitating a doormouse scratching to get out 🙄 Southbound fettled them sometime ago but I think they need hog rings on the zig zag springs.

As an ex allegro owner (well it was my grans car and she gave it to me and my brother) those comments are so true lol

You have to remember sponge never noticed as he usually has a rocket up his arse which counters the effects

"House purchase forces reluctant sale" :-(

Brian - will you be painting the wheels white?
Nope. Theyre staying Black for now even though the COA says they were factory white 🙄

A few jobs required over the past week. Taking out plugs 4,5,6 revealed there wasn't any 'wetness' of oil just some black carbon type stuff mainly on No 6 as expected. I've put off 1,2,3 for another day. Top tip use the plug extractor attachment from the supplied tool kit in case your nomal appliance leaves the rubber plug gripper on the plug in the deep recess. Ask me how I know 🙄

I wanted to address the 'bald' patch on the drivers door sill - a common trait for these cars although on my 993 the carpet had worn on 50k miles and not 220k+ like this one!

Just needs a bit of 'fluffing' and a trim down but it saves the burn of a full Southbound carpet set. Luckily trimming some excess carpet from underneath the rear footwell overlap provided the donor. Note: Ignore the black carpet mat. The original has very good pile but the plastic heel pad is knackered so I've handed it over to a neighbour who has a carpet business to stitch in a piece of vinyl to the same shape and then I'll vax the carpets. I did order a replacement set of mats from a company on eBay that assured me they had the correct pattern for a G-series (no AC) but clearly their idea is different to mine so they went back for a refund.

Next up was the driver's seat. 04-ACB1-B4-50-DA-4-A41-BE60-CEDBFB9-EAE87.jpgIMG_2551(1).jpg

There's a decent 'patina' on the seat, I quite like it, and I suspect a dye and treatment will sort it out to bring it back like new. However the main 'issue' was the springing/padding in the base. My arse was so low it left you with the feeling your gonads could be skimming the tarmac so I need to hoik it up. Removing the seat is simple enough but the weight of manoeuvering it out/in is not a good idea after a mutton tikka vindaloo with risk of further chalfont damage  Note the MC Hammer era Blaupunkt amp under the seat - not sure if it's still connected given the updated Blaupunkt retro DAB unit in the dash.

Reading Pelican Parts to sort this out you need to tighten the zig zag springs in the base effectively connecting them together with metal 'pig tails' (you can see some present that have expanded). Obviously I didn't have any nor the specialist tool to ring and then join them so I thought I'd give it a go with cable ties to test it. Surprisingly it works and now the sport seat is like an armchair (y)

Now one of the elephant's in the room - the Targa hood piece. Digging out the service history Southbound completely restored the hood in 2007 and overall it's faring quite well. There are a few small cracks to the outer vinyl where it folds when removed but I can sort those with coloured leather/vinyl repair glue that nan's sofa would get every few years. The rest of the hood is fine, interior is all good and fixed seals look OK. It's the seals on the body that can and are an issue. Theyv'e been replaced at some point I think as part of the restoration and whilst the rear hoop seal is good the one above the windscreen doesn't fit right.

The leading edge tubular piece is sitting too proud.

Research again suggests there are two seals for the targa an early and a later one for the 964 despite the front clip fastenings changing from SC/G-Series before the 964 came along. I believe the earlier seal is NLA and whilst you can order the correct part number you canend up with the newer 964 seal but packaged in the old part number bag 🙄

When I finally get onto Pelican Parts I'm going to ask the targa 'Guru' Dan Petchel of CarsincNJ.com, he supplies his own seal and and ask him if it will solve my problem. But as you can see if needs to be replaced. It seals well but the wind hits it head on.

But when the weather is good enough to take it off who worries about the seal. A quick drive with teh break in the weather over the weekend and coffee stop (y)

My company had the luxury of transporting this Porsche. I don't suppose anyone would be able to tell me much about it. All I know is its a Carrera Targa.
Have no idea what year it is. Can anyone help?

Without the reg, I'm guessing it's a 3.2 carrera targa, 87-89.
Looking at rhe dust both interior and exterior, it's been sat for quite some time.
