I'm not totally in love with the Pirelli rubber on my Cayman GTS, it just doesn't inspire confidence under braking and can be a bit slippery going forward too. Not sure if it is the seasonal temps or just the compound, either way, I am missing my Michelins. At the same time, I'm also bit indifferent on the Turbo 20s (they're such a pain to clean!)
This has got me considering what 19s (cheaper rubber, more compliant) are on offer in a sensible fitment and was wondering what aftermarket sizes people have actually fitted. As I understand it (from the manual)
The OEM 19" option is:
F - 8J x 19 x RO 57 (235 / 40 / 19)
R - 9.5J x 19 x RO 45 (265 / 40 / 19)
Looking at the OEM 20s fitted to my car, they appear to be:
F - 8.5J x 20 x RO 57 (235 / 35 / 20)
R - 10J x 20 x RO 50 (265 / 35 / 20)
To my entirely untrained eye, I think there is room for 10mm or so extra poke on the design of the fitted 20 Turbos, all round, without it becoming an issue at the arches.
So perhaps something in this region might work...
F - 8.5J x 19 x RO 45 (235 / 40 / 19)
R - 10J x 19 x RO40 (265 / 40 / 19)
Does that seem about right to anyone who has changed theirs?
The reason I am asking is not only to see what works, but having seen some custom wheels it would give me a rare opportunity to spec precisely what I've like (I won't be adding spacers etc to "make them fit").
Thanks for any comments, suggestions for sizes and designs which have just the right fitment for a flush fitment.
