Today my Escort Mexico went to a new home.
I did a nut and bolt restoration on this car at home in my garage.
The increasing value of these cars was starting bear heavily on me as I have not really used it since I did the restoration.
The proceeds from this will see me into a nice 964/993 so for those that say aircooled 911's are undervalued then in all seriousness I would agree.

This is how it looked when I started.

Escort

Bloody lovely, I had a couple of RS2000's in the late 90's and god I wish I could have stuck them in a barn. One I sold for £1750 the other was stolen whilst I was following the then 'Lombard RAC' rally of GB...barstewards even drove the car right past me in the middle of Telford...

very, very nice. :thumb:

Jesus- that is a beauty- always loved Mexico's....
how long did it take to restore?

Err.. 4 months  .. I tend to throw myself into these projects and I was in the garage into the small hours most nights..

She's a beauty KAS, well done.

Good old Pinto power :thumb:

Really lovely to see, thanks for posting.

I had a RS2000 back in the day, not remotely in that league though :nooo:

Clearly a labour of love, must have been quite a wrench to let her go, but getting an aircooled 911 should soften the blow somewhat :)

Restoration on the air cooled too? Wow the Mexico credit to you :thumb:

Fantastic job here! I was a Ford fan in my youth. My first car was a MkII Escort in this very colour. I always converted the fast Fords. Owned a number of them as well.

It's interesting how they look now in reflection. So basic, so little comforts inside. Think about all the things we take for granted that are absent from this car. Electric windows, Aircon, SatNav, electric seats etc. easy to see why cars are so heavy now.

Top job on the rebuild.
