Eye opening invoices

I do like having a good read through all the service invoices when I get a car as it tells a good story of what's gone on in it's life (and also helps you keep an eye out for what you might have trouble with).

One thing that startles me though is some of the prices paid and the work that has been done.

Saw this on an ad for a Turbo last night and couldn't believe it. Service with a new turbo fitted and correct me if I'm wrong (as they may use this stuff for something other than what I thought) but part of the £2063 service was to put "RAD WELD" in it???? At a cost of £16.80 (only £3 in my local hardware store). They may as well put "2 egg whites".

If I was the seller I'd have at least photo-shopped that bit off!

Is that car still for sale?? I remember looking at that invoice when I was looking to buy...

Put me off a bit to be honest, No Vat number... :?:

Yes, on eBay.

Not withstanding the Radweld  there was only 3 and a bit hundred labour in there.

If you are in any way handy at fixing your own car it is a shock when you see how much people pay for routine stuff. I keep telling my missus being married to me saves her a fortune with all these toy cars  otherwise she would just be another woman getting ripped off handing her credit card over to Kwik Fit or the likes.

The first few owners of my Lotus had invoices for tens of thousands, I spoke to some later on and they said they would never touch one again because of the bills. Then you see entries in the history for age-old ripoffs like oil counted in single litres at 4 times the price, or a £700 recovery vehicle to take the car to the garage for non-urgent repairs just because the owner was on business/couldn't be arsed. It's all proportional, the first owners were businessmen who could afford it, real ownership costs are only discovered when cars end up in the hands of plebs like us

I don't tinker with my car due to my inability to understand what is to be done and how. But the last point is pertinent because too many Porsches are at a price where people can afford to buy but will struggle to keep it tip-top. That's why I advocate a good PPI to see the car from underneath as well as shiny side up.

Didn't think labour cost was too bad seeing as they fit a new turbo on one side in the process. I'd like to know what they had to import from outside the EU that warrantied slapping £104 VAT duty on.

Looked at that car myself, zero SH and odd looking invoices.

Come on guys this is blatantly something he has printed off himself to make it looks like its got history and had bits done. I have a friend (don't worry not me!) who does this all the time and lots of people fall for it!

On another note all this PPI its safe rubbish. These cars are 10+ years old and they usually look like the titanic underneath at the back. These cars are gambles and I would personally prefer a higher mileage low owner car to a low mileage car with of owner cars. Usual visual checks apply like paint, rads, steering wheel etc. These PPI's can condemn the cleanest of cars usually without a test drive or internal engine inspection..

One of the invoices in the ad is from a specialist in Kent, the other however...

Surely if you'd 'lost' the SH you'd be able to get at least some of it back from Porsche?

Don't think the seller would be capable of producing such a document.

and I think your comment about PPI will go down like the Titanic.

I lost my service folder for my car (2003 996)Luckily I still had the bill of sale from OP.They sent me a print, and a service card with stamps of work done.

I've just realised that invoice looks liked a standard Sage format.
The empty vat no field is for the customers details. The suppliers name, vat no etc appear above these fields and are not shown on the photo.

So the invoice was probably created with Sage but of course that does not garentee it's genuine.
