996 just pooped itself!

My 02 3.6 C4 cab just pooped itself. No warnings, just stalled at traffic lights. I sensed something wasn't right. So I didn't restart it, as no knocking or rattling sounds. Just pushed it to safety. Little drops of oil to a massive puddle beneath in no time. Specialist confirmed IMS. My 8th porsche. Strangely not upset me.

What next. I quite fancy a 964. The hunt begins.

Any opinions on price and best way to sell would be appreciated.

I'd get it fixed first as nobody will touch it otherwise. You could try a specialist engine rebuilder whether they would buy it to fix and sell on with their warranty. A company in Bolton comes to mind

Oh *****, sorry to hear that, but welcome from a fellow newbie.

Hi,

Shame about the bad news, but as I always say, we're all in it together!
Whereabouts are you, someone local should be able to help, least if you're local to me, I will.

Hi

I am sorry to hear about your engine.

It is probably not a popular suggestion but there is a firm that does kits to put a modern Corvette LS engine into the 996. I would consider doing that.

All the best

Berni

Thanks for the kind replies. I've decided to sell as is. Worth 15k & 1k wheel refurb & paint & poss 5k rebuild, total 21k. I won't keep as I'm gagging for a 964. So I'd be losing 21k-15k=6k, I think i'd rather just lose the 6k off the 15k as is.

Not sure if it would be worth 15k with no engine :?:

What a great idea! And a proper engine the LS is too!

My personal favourite of the GM short blocks is the LS6. 2nd hand you could probably find one for $4k.

I wish, I meant 15k fixed, so poss 9-10k as it.

Sorry to hear the sad news.

Good luck with trying to get 9-10K. I'll be very surprised if you do. Sorry. :nooo:

for my pennies worth I'm always surprised by the shortage of 'lunched' 996's for sale on the web. As a buyer its surely a great way to 996 ownership.

Get a cheap car and then spend the rest of your budget getting it all put right knowing everything is now mechanically spot on.

As for value I was very tempted with a black C2 tip with IMS failure which sold for abut £8k on ebay pretty quickly.

Thats a very good point.

I'll bet there is a market there for rogered 996/7's to rebuild for personal/track/experimental use.

£8k for one does sound a little high to me though but ebay is a funny place sometimes...

That is if it was genuinely sold and not just bid up too high by the owner
