991 oil change after break-in period

C4S has done 2,700 miles. Have been reading about first oil change after break-in period and considering my options:

-OPC
-Specialist
-OPC with my own oil
-DIY

Some questions please before I phone OPC:

A) How much would OPC charge for engine oil and filter replacement?

B) If I supply my own oil to OPC, how much saving I would expect?

C) If I go Specialist/DIY route, would this affect the warranty and would OPC be happy to reset the service interval for me and how much would they charge for resetting?

D) my understanding the oil is of Mobil 1 new life 0w-40. Two 5L bottles... Amazon is around 42 ponds a bottle.

Thank you

On a car as new as yours I'd stay with the OPC for now.

Supply your own oil and you'll save yourself a few bob. I normally buy mine when Halfords have a sale (20% off brings it down to £39.99). You can get it cheaper at Costco etc but £42 doesn't sound bad.

The OPC would charge you by the litre used, iirc at around £17 per litre, so over £150. For your £84 you'll also have a bit left over for top ups etc.

Halfords £40 for Mobil 1 0w-40 special offer

Its got to be OPC to maintain resale value
who\d want to be a £70,000 car not serviced by a main dealer
plus theres recalls that probably need to be done that you are unaware off.
First service is circa £600 you'd devalue the car by more by having it specialist serviced

Just to make myself clear, I am not referring to first service, I am aware all scheduled service to be done at OPC. I am in fact referring to the oil change after break-in period (car is only 3 months old).. Thank you

Is there such a thing? If so, I wasn't aware of it! I can imagine some folks recommend it, but do Porsche? I know on BMW M's there is a change that has to be done to keep the warranty as they are supplied with running in oil. I didn't think the 991 was?

- OPC with my own oil

Nothing wrong with changing your oil more often than specified in the service schedule. I change mine at least once a year but I know others do it more frequently. I always have my local OPC do it but I supply the oil which normally saves around £80-100...

OPC supplied filter is around £25-30.

Updated that for you!

PS. OPC Hatfield = £60 saving; OPC Cambridge = £160 saving

Hi all

Been reading a while but first post for me. Just about to take delivery of a new 991 GTS and also considering oil change after first 1500 miles or so.

I'll have to give Cambridge a call. Hatfield quoted me £250 for an oil & filter change, but informed me it would be more if I brought my own oil as "they'd have to charge me for disposal of the old oil".

Silverstone quoted £350 (both prices inc vodka & tonic!)

I'm amazed at how these prices can vary so much across the network!

:dont know:

Pale :D

I would tell them that you will dispose of your old oil if they try to charge you for it, then take it to your local council recycling centre and get rid of it there for nothing.
It should be a lot cheaper if you supply your own oil, you aren't paying their price for the oil and you aren't paying for them to dispose of the old oil.
If they still try to charge you more for using your own oil I would take it somewhere else. There are plenty of other places who will happily take your money and just charge for what they do.

Even though Porsche do not recognise a break-in period as such on the 991, had my oil and filer changed at my local OPC 2 weeks ago at 5K miles.

Cost was £135 with me supplying Mobil oil which cost me £76 on the internet. Without my own oil, cost would have been £295 (i.e. £160 for the oil from the dealer).

Took just over 2 hours to do the oil change, so was well pleased at £135 (which covered a new oil filter and labour).

What is the consensus on this one? I asked the dealer who told me not to bother changing the oil.

Done about 2500 miles.
