are they magnetic?

imsb is made of steel.

when was the filter last changed?

no is not magnetic... aluminium ???
the service book indicates revision has 74500km,
now the car has traveled 84600km...

thanks

It looks like the IMS is on it's way out. I'd get it changed asap. Dove House open up and inspect all oil filters when they do an oil change, luckily ,mine was 100% free of metal particles last week.

I'd be tempted to stick a new filter in and see what it looks like in 500 miles.

Metal could be from anywhere not just the IMS.

Snap ^^^^^^

IMS bearing failure usually occurs under the first 50k miles. Once it gets past that, it'll probably never go in your ownership lifetime.

Pull the oil pan and check for debris as well. That amount does not look scarey. I would change the filter and oil and check again in 1000. Keep in mind the filters job is to trap debris, it could be normal wear.

Any update on this 06stef?

Quite interested to learn of your findings.

Regards,

Scott.
