Sustained high speed driving will scrub tyres - they get hot and leave rubber behind on the tarmac. I alwaus found Pirelli soft compound - good grip becasue it they run hot and sticky but obviously wear quicker.
My wear pattern tells you I am fairly gentle on my car after 10k miles of driving to have the depth I have on the inner edge.
