Hi, just a quick introduction...
My names Aaron, im a technician at Citroen, with 10 years experience at Peugeot, including a 3 year apprenticeship.
My stepfather owns a 911 996 x50. ('04 plate)
I've fitted a pair of forge DV's this weekend, and also had to replace all the nuts for the exhaust manifolds, where they meet the turbo. (All 6 had corroded away/missing, very strange..)

Anyway, whilst underneath, i noticed the turbo wastegate actuator rod on the passenger side has corroded through, and snapped clean off.
It looks easy enough to replace, and i have viewed a few threads on this, for common issues on replacement etc.
The problem is though, its where it has snapped. Its literally right at the very end, where the small linkage is closest to the turbo, and there are no threads left to try and grip and unscrew it.
I think my only option is to drill the old bit of arm out, and hopefully be able to re-tap it. Or can it come off via a circlip? (Ive fitted a couple in the past, and thats how they were)
I have a picture, but i cant attach it as its too big a file size...

Any help/advice/tales of past experience will be greatly appreciated!

(If this in the wrong section, my apologies, please feel free to move it if necessary)

Thanks,
Aaron.

Hi Aaron,

I've moved your post and changed the thread title slightly. :thumb:

I can't help with your query but it should now be in the best place to reach the people that can.

ps. :welcome: to 911uk. Say hello to your stepdad too.

This post may help

And welcome. X50, a very nice turbo. Will be even faster once you have the actuator fixed.

As for the rusted nuts from the manifold to the turbos, they all do that sir. Did you replace the nuts or the nuts and the studs?

Thanks for that, i'll have read..

I only had to replace one of the studs, bought a full set of nuts from porsche.
Removed both the manifolds for access, and could get a die nut on all but one.

Just read your link, that would work fine, but the rod has snapped flush with the turbo end, so pretty much just a solid cylinder, attached to the wastegate...

I do have a picture, but its too large to post..

Yup, that's a bit of a problem. Personal view is a new actuator required but I'm a bit ham fisted so there may be other views along later. I understand they are not too expensive but do need setting up so they crack at the right point.

I think he wants both doing, then going for setup, and possibly a remap.

No real concern with fitting new ones, its just getting the snapped bit out that worries me..

Nice to see my link being used! Is still working fine now!

Hopefully you get it sorted. Hardest part was getting the corroded part away from the wastegate.

Sounds like you should have enough thread to use this method though!

Remember to get the actuators set up to crack simultaneously. Best off getting an Indy to do this?

Looked at your pic, you have loads of thread, cut it down, use an m6 stud connector and then use some M6 stud to go back to required length.

Can you very careful drill / tap thr corroded part out? Maybe a little heat?

Hi, it looks a mint way of repairing it, but no good for mine :(
Theres a twitter link a coupe of posts up if you wanted to see for yourself...

On a side note, thanks for everyones input so far, nice to know the help is out there, even though i dont't own or drive a porsche, and i specialise more in french bean can cars... Awesome! :thumb:

Yes, sorry dude, it would work, i think my only option would be to drill it.
I just wondered if there was any other way to make it fit, i.e, can that part with the snapped bit of thread in it be removed/replaced?

I did buddy, you have loads of thread. You only need enough to get the connection threaded down. You would then use the M6 thread to make a new threaded end . The snapped part in the wastegate is where they all go.

Look at my post, I cut down to half way up the thread connector. The rest is brand new threaded stud :)
