993 Coupe finding one for Sale !?

Hi guys

I'm a new member and this is my first post so bear with me a bit

Am in the process of trying to buy a 993 coupe but am seriously struggling! I have looked at the usual specialists and pistonheads etc but it is extremely tricky!

Does anyone have a suggestion as to how I could go about finding one?! Or does anyone know of someone considering selling theirs?

Appreciate this is an odd question! Any help much appreciated

A lot of the cars that go on sale with the trade are snapped up before listing, so get in touch with the key firms and register your interest. Also perhaps put a wanted ad up on PH?

Another avenue could be the owners club, you could join up and check out their classifieds in the magazine, as well as contacting your local group to see if they know anyone- I got a good lead this way...

Hope this helps, and good luck!

Thanks Harry - very useful

When you say owner's club, I assume you mean Porsche Owners Club GB?

Thanks again

Yes that's right. You could make contact with your local group (nothing stopping you contacting all of the regional groups not just your own) and see if they know of anyone....

There are a couple of 993 coupe private sales on PH at the moment - one in Cheshire (£30K) and the other in Harrogate (£26K). I might have been interested in the first of these myself had I not bought a 993 Targa only a few weeks ago.

If you prefer to buy from a dealer then Harry is right - get yourself on their lists. I lost count of how many times I called dealers to arrange to look at a car only to find that it was already sold/reserved. I got myself on 3 or 4 dealers' lists, then I got lucky and called another dealer just as a reserved car came back on sale. I put a deposit on it over the phone, sight unseen. Be prepared to travel - I was finding virtually none in my (East Midlands) area and, after widening my search area, ended up buying in Cornwall!!

Good luck with the search.

Thanks for that - extremely helpful.

Interesting to hear you bought a targa in the end. I have been toying with the idea of it myself but can't decide!!

How are you finding the Targa? Is it noisier/less stiff than a coupe or would you say there is not much in it?

Thanks again

Welcome !

You've joined a great site with a wealth of knowledge and experience at hand to assist .

Concur with Harry's advice....

Certainly worth placing a wanted ad on sites like PH and Car & Classic website. Also a wanted ad on here in the ads section, PCGB website TIPEC website and mags like total 911 etc.

You might just get someone responding , especially of you clarify in the ad that your a private enthusiast buyer seeking a car for yourself as some people would prefer letting their car go this way than to a dealer.

Main thing is try and be patient , this is easier said than done and I am always chomping at the bit when it comes to seeking out a new car !

Enjoy the process and best of luck in your search

Go and sit in a Targa, the amount of light and sense of space is great! I looked at the coupe before settling on a targa and found the cabin quite tight re headroom, especially if you're tall, you do gain space as there isn't any headlining etc.

As for noise, all I can say regarding my own roof is that it's rattle free, and chassis stiffness, you're right, there is little in it!

Good luck with the search!

Like you, I started out looking for a coupe - but I couldn't find any that ticked the right boxes for me or, when I did, they were already reserved/sold. As Bristol4Boris has said, the Targa gives this wonderful sense of light and space. Coming from a Boxster, I found I enjoyed this more than the coupe (even one with a sun-roof). There are a few minor rattles but nothing annoying or that spoils the glorious sound from the engine! No problem with chassis stiffness IMO.

Thanks for all your comments guys - hugely appreciated

I suspect this is going to a be a long journey but a fun one I'm sure

Cheers again

I can vouch for this one; http://911uk.com/ads_item.php?id=5209

I remember sitting in it at Lotherton Hall a few years back with my friend (Strasse had brought it along as part of their stand) and initially dismissing it because of the marble interior. However, the more cars he looked at the more this one just screamed 'the right car' and he ended up buying it a few months later.

Don't think it's seen rain / road salt since, it leads a pampered life (in fact he had a new garage built just for it)!
