I am going to do a plug change in my car and figured on changing the coil packs whilst I am in there..I have spotted some NGK coil packs and wondered if these are ok to use...Also which plugs would the collective recommend?

There is a 2008 thread on Piston Heads slating Bosch coil packs. Perhaops best to avoid those. No idea about NGK. Apparently the Porsche coil plugs are BERU. Hope these comments help.

You're a brave guy taking on the plugs - there is quite a bit of dismantling to be done - and if it means touching corroded studs and heatshield - something may snap off and then it has to go to a specialist?

When I changed mine I used Beru coil packs and Beru FR6LDC plugs, from what I remember that is also what was in it before.
It's a pretty tricky job to do on the passenger side, the only tip I can give you is take a trip down to your local casualty unit and see if you can borrow a child with a broken arm for a few hours.

Kas750,
Looks like I'll need to buy a set of Coil packs and spark plugs. Can I ask how long the job took you, and what was the best deal you got.

I'm thinking around 4 hours and around £190

Ocean Blue, if it's any help, I had this done at OPC this year with a Major Servicee and can share with you what I know:
1. The coil packs are made by Beru.
2. OPC charge around £38 each for these. Euro Car Parts are cheaper at around £27 each (both inc VAT). Euro Car Parts prices should be checked again as prices go up and down with frequent servicing offer discounts etc.
3. Spark plug change on a Turbo has a book time of around 2.5 hours - but that's with all the facilities and ramps etc.

If you are going to DIY, then I'd say your estimate of 4 hours is probably not too far off. I don't know about NGK. I'm sure Kas750 can give you that information.

I ended up buying Beru coil packs from Porschapart in Ramsbottom and they came in at £170 for the six.

As I was planning the forthcoming Nurburgring trip I decided to get a major service carried out(even though strictly its not due till next year) and the coil packs where fitted at the same time.

I would say that you could easily do the job in 4 hrs.

There are some threads on U.S forum where people have claimed to do a plug change without removing the rear PU but I doubt that it would be quicker,if at all possible?

Cheers

Adrian

Chears chaps, something to go on. I keep reading about the poor service from Porscheapart which has me leaning away from them. Rest of the info looks tops. I watched a video of some bloke taking them off, however he never got round to removing the really difficult one and Lofi had me worried and laughing ath the same time when he mentioned medical assistance is required.

The car will go up on the Jackpoint stands, wheels off at the end of September. The rear PU is coming off regardless as the paintwork has suffered a hit and some crazing has appeared.

Thanks :thumb:

Poor service from Porschapart? really?? I wasn't aware of that TBH... I used to buy parts from Simon Butterworth 24 years ago when he worked out of his garage and he has been good with me recently also...As well as the coil packs I bought new rads from him as well, all cheaper than anywhere else locally.
