hello every i have a 2001 911 carrera its a sad sorry my engine gave up on me in dec i sent the car to my local garage i had used for 6 yrs (not with a 911 )
anyway it took them 5 weeks to get the engine out and turn around and say it was better to send the engine off so the garage sent it to cowboys (we found out after) called engine and gear box specialists there ebay name aka http://www.volks-apart.com
anyway the so called specialists told the local garage that he can rebuild my engine for £2500 so sounds great so the garage sent them my engine 6 weeks later after getting told each week its being fix etc volks apart say it cant be fixed but we can sell you a replacement engine for £4500 plus vat but we will also keep your old engine.
this now brings us to the end of feb am not a happy bunny after being told its being fixed so i ended up getting my old engine sent back which took 2 weeks and having to get trading standards on the case.
so when i got the engine back i sent it to my local porsche specialist in christchurch called jmg porsche who are great guys and will be servicing my porsche from now on.
so jmg looked over my engine and told me it cant be fixed and the cheap way around it is a replacement engine jmg have been trying to get me one but the only 3.4 that jmg could find was £6k which is more than i want to pay as i know you can get them cheaper.
so i found d9 online and spoke to them about my problem d9 did not have a 3.4 in stock but the next day phoned me and told me he can make me an engine as he has all the parts in stock and will do it for £4k and will also fit it and pick my 911 up and fit it.
what i want to know is has anyone used them and if so how did you get on as you will see i have been getting the run around and just want my car fixed d9 are due to pick my car up tomorrow and have said it will be fixed within 2 weeks and will do it for a fair price.
i just dont want anymore problems so any feedback would be great or if you have a 3.4 engine for sale or know someone who does please let me know asap regards feedup 996 owner

Hello. Welcome to the forum, it's a shame that it's under such sad circumstances.
If D9 are coming to collect your car tomorrow, I fear you may have left things a little late. But I do believe there are a few people on here who have used them and have been happy? Try a search for D9.
I think in your situation the first number I would have called would have been for Hartech Porsche in the NW.
They have a good reputation for engine rebuilds for the 996. However I don't know if the cost would fall in with your budget.
Good luck with this. I hope it works out for you.

hello i have been talking to Hartech and yes there a good group but the damage done to my engine cannot be fixed and i need a new engine
i have paid out £1500 so far so am trying to get the best deal i can since i have a car at my house and parts at a garage and have just been given the run around.
Hartech did offer to rebuild the engine and was going to send it to them but after my local inde have seen the engine it is beyond repair which means its no good for Hartech as i need a new engine.
i had seen some on ebay for £2500-3500 which am told is the going rate but since i know i need a new one the only ones i can find are above the £4000 mark so am 99% sure am getting the best deal from D9

OK understood,
I hope this works out well for you and you get a good replacement engine.
It seems like you have a plan in place. Let us know how you get on.
Good luck with this.
Steve.

Sorry to hear your story and it sounds like you may of picked the wrong place to go to for an engine in the first place, I've seen the Volks-apart ads (they trade under a couple of names) and though they sound dodgy. They strip an engine or not and see what needs replacing, the basic stuff.
I hope D9 take better care of you, but all of a sudden having a whole engine in parts just knocking about may not sound great either.
There are a lot of people jumping on the rebuild bandwagon as theres money to be made doing these engines, mainly because the going rate for a decent rebuild by Hartech may cost up to £8k, this makes going for a £4.5k rebuild/used engine seems tempting but this won't usually include a good strip down to detect any underlying issues.

Good luck and I hope it all goes well. What was the original failing of the engine?

it was the intermittent drive shift that went the 1st two garages and the cowboys both said it was the head gasket that went

If it helps you sleep better: Whilst I haven't had an engine rebuilt by D9 Autotech, so cannot speak from directly relevant experience, that company does routine service work on my car and I've had absolutely no cause for complaint in the 2 years I have been dealing with it.
I have seen other 911s in the yard there waiting for engines to be reinstalled after rebuild, and know from my own observation that it works almost exclusively on Porsche cars.

D9 Autotech

Hi. I have only just seen this thread on the subject of D9 Autotech at Bridgend, South Wales. In January of this year I bouight a 3.2 Carrera from these people. They style themselves as 'Porsche Specialists' so I thought it should be safe. They assured me that they had looked after this car for the previous owner and that it was in good all round condition. The guy actually said that I trust him 'because I am a Welshman'!
After I had had the car a couple of weeks I took the car to a (real) Porsche Specialist in the Midlands and had to spend nearly £1900 getting it serviced up to date and having a number of basic faults corrected.

I used D9 when i lived in Bridgend, first couple of times they were sound. A window actuator was fixed at around £240

then i had a fault that required the foot switch replacing, a common fault, but they charged me £120 for a plug into the diagnostic machine, £25 for the switch and £70 for labour, i didn't go to them again, i did discuss the price of the diagnostics after the fact, may be a fair price, but i was a bit shocked by it tbh.

this was about 6 years ago now.

Any feedback on D9 Autotech? How did they work out?

I am thinking of using them and would really appreciate any thoughts.
