My wife actually is extremely unhappy to say the least. She rang around for her car Insurance and finally went with you know who. I told her that they are an administrative nightmare which is why I cancelled my Insurance with them several years ago.

Anyway they asked her about her NCB and she said 'full' as she has not had any accidents in twenty odd years. They came up most competitive at some £200.. She got her NCB from her previous insurers which only showed seven years (that is as far back as they go) although she has not been with them for all that time. (What happened to four and five years as it used to be ????...... in the good old days :?: ). So AF charged an additional premium of £55 for the two year difference. Unbelievable.

Any idea on courses of action? I am penning a letter for her. They did not make it clear that theirs ran for nine years and I feel this is entrapment. She paid straight away on my card and they have cheekily taken the other £55 from my card.

yeah, I'm sorry, but AF pi$$ed me about too, would never go back.

Not only that, but £55 for two additional years?

WTF

How does that work as a percentage?

Its probably £5 premium and £50 administration charge.

Ask for a copy of the call recording, put in a compaint to the FSA, and cancel under the DSR.

Plus as Porsche News says, speak to your card provider. There is probably another official complaint there too.

Complaints are a nightmare procedure for companies to deal with, most of it is bollox but it will cetainly cause them work and hassle.

(Unless £255 is still the cheapest, but I would go elsewhere on principal.)

..was with them once and only once. They cream you if/when you change cars, add drivers or even if they think your looking at the policy that they took ages to send out!!.

Don't say we never told you!

My only experience was for a quote for my 996. They quoted over £850 p.a. explaing they were specialists in Porsches. My existing (other cars) company (2 letters in their name) quoted £385.....it was not a difficult choice.

Remember advertising BS baffles brains.....

Took me 10 months & many phone calls for AF to send me the policy documents, they just kept sending me out a partially hand written cover note each month :?

That said compared to my nighmare experience with Avi*a they were amazing :x

AF did something very similar to me this morning (entrapment)

I'm a loyal customer and do not normally shop around even when there are savings to be made, but this time I made it clear they will not be seeing my business again. Cars & property.

Been there and already got an that t-shirt for my specific "sin".

Never again

I hear they also want a photo copy of your full licence now and if you don't supply you are going to lose £££££££

"run Forrest run"

Cancelled mine on work policy 4 months left no refund!!!?? C***s

Absolute crap outfit. I asked them for a quote last August at my renewal. They wanted to know how much I paid for the car - I declined and told them it was irrelevant in a disucssion on an agreed valuation quote as I had the agreed valuation for the car from the current insurer.

The rep told me thy always ask for purchase price - I replied what if it was an inheritance and not a purchase?

Wouldn't touch -em with a barge pole.

I have no experience of the company you are having an issue with, however I had similar dealings with a policy brokered through the AA a couple of years ago.
Different Insurance companies give maximum no claims discount for different number of years claim free; With some the maximum discount may be achieved with 5 years, yet with others it may be 12 years, therefore stating "maximum no claims" is pretty meaningless, it is all about the number of years NCD which you documentary proof of.
However it is the responsibility of the Insurance company to establish the material facts to calculate the policy premium, they must ask clear unambiguous questions.
However be aware you could have built up 12 years maximum NCD with one company, then move to a company where the maximum NCD is say for example 6 years; when you leave them the following year you only have a NCD certificate for 6 years, not 13! So unless you kept a copy of the NCD from the previous year you would have effectively lost 7 years NCD.
So well worth keeping copies of all NCD when you receive your renewal documents.

As far as your issue with AF, the conversation you had with them will be recorded and stored for 6 months for FCA compliance, if they did not specifically ask you to clarify how many years NCD your wife had, but rather accepted "maximum", or made an assumption, then the exact number of years was not a material fact when calculating the policy, and as such a further premium can not/ should not be charged.

I should have finished this post with the 'ultimate' solution. I posted on PH where as it happens one of their workers is a member. He said he would look into it for me and I therefore got the additional premium back and they stuck by their original quote.

They of course could not find or did not provide the notification of the additional premium due so make your own mind up on that bit.

At least it was sorted out and my wife had to finally succumb to the idea that all these nerdy forums are a complete waste of time.

I had warned her of AF having previously been a customer.

Insurance

I know I am digressing here but................
My wife is thinking of getting a new Ford Kuga Titanium Sport in March and I have just gone onto a comparison site and got a long list of quotes.....
She has had a Motability car for 6 years and wants off the scheme. They said when we first went on it that her Insurance would not be affected if she ever decided to come off it. They lied. She has 0% no claims now!!!

cheapest £346

and the dearest.... £11,005 :floor: :floor: :floor: :bandit:

I had to share this with you.
