Official photos of the new Carrera 4 and 4S leak out

We may have to wait till Monday for the official release from Porsche, but apparently these are the official images of the new 991 Carrera 4 and 4S, which have found their way onto the web today.

Power options will be carried over as on the RWD versions with the base Carrera 4 featuring a 3.4-litre flat-six with direct fuel injection and an output of 345hp (350PS) at 7,400 rpm and 390Nm (288 lb-ft) at 5,600 rpm, or buyers can opt for the Carrera 4S model fitted with the 3.8-litre flat-six with direct fuel injection rated at 394hp (400PS) at 7,400 rpm and 440Nm (324 lb-ft) at 5,600 rpm.

One interesting new feature we can make out form the images provided is the optional 'Adaptive Cruise Control' as seen in center part of the lower front bumper. Pricing on this option will be disclosed in the official release Monday.

The public "live" world premiere of the Carrera 4 and 4S models will be at the 2012 Paris Motor Show on September 27.

Styling-wise, there are a couple of changes to distinguish the Carrera 4 from normal models. For example, you can clearly notice the light bar that connects that connects the taillights. It's slimmer than the one on the previous Carrera 4. Also at front, the car appears to have a new spoiler lip, and what seems like a radar in the middle of the front bumper. Maybe the new model is getting one of those fancy cruise control systems like that of the Mercedes S-Class.

The most noticeable difference, for die-hard Porsche fans of course, is the widened rear-end "” typical of Carrera 4 models. Real Porsche enthusiasts won't care about this car though, because they rightfully believe the best 911 you can get is the most basic one, the Carrera 2.

60mm wider will make it wider than the 997 wide-bodies. Should stand out a little more too. Can't wait to see it in the flesh. Liking that illuminating strip - a first for Porsche even though it's quite a gimmick imo.

According to the Email I received this morning it's 44mm wider hardly makes it a wide body

I always had a soft spot for illuminated sills (particulary the bespoke option  )

Agreed ^^^ Nice but very pricey as a dealer-fit option unfortunately.

Previous dimensions taken from a US website, who apparently have a problem with metric (or math !?).

44mm is the correct extra width:

From the outside, the styling is almost identical to the rear-wheel drive Carrera models, though in Carrera 4 tradition the rear wings extend further outwards, adding an additional 22 millimetres of width on either side. Filling these are wider rear tyres, which are 10 millimetres wider than the tyres on the rear-wheel drive models. The traditional red light strip that connects the two tail-lamps of the Carrera 4 has also taken on a new form.

OMG this is just so goddamn frikkin' cool:

Something like that would look awesome on the rear end of my GT3 :?:

...... I'm off to Halfords to get an LED light strip to slap on the back of my GT3 :thumb:

The four new models are distinguished from their rear-wheel drive counterparts by the 44mm wider body and a traditional rear reflective strip. Carrera 4 models are powered by a 3.4 litre engine which develops 350 hp, while the 4S models house a 3.8 litre, 400 hp power plant.

Pricing for the new all-wheel drive 911 Carrera models is as follows:

911 Carrera 4 Coupé £77,924.00 (inc. VAT at 20%)
911 Carrera 4S Coupé £87,959.00 (inc. VAT at 20%)
911 Carrera 4 Cabriolet £86,583.00 (inc. VAT at 20%)
911 Carrera 4S Cabriolet £96,619.00 (inc. VAT at 20%)

Here is the official video too.

The script says one thing about the car: it's got an illuminated tail light strip.

My, my. The copywriters in Porsche's marketing division must have worked hard to produce this.
