Seen this car: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classif.../page/1/radius/1501/postcode/sr31yl?logcode=p

I am looking for a 997 turbo, which will be a weekend car to do approx 2-4k miles pa, so the relatively high mileage is not an issue to me as it will even out over the next 2-3 years or however long i keep it, i may be wrong but i cant see these cars dropping below 25k over the next 3 years so it kinda makes a bit of sense at that rate of depreciation, opinions please.

thanks

jason

997 Turbos seem to be the real bargains out there at the moment.

For that money I can't see anything in the advert to make me suspicious that it's anything other than a really nice car. It doesn't mention the desirable sports chrono pack but if you can live without that for the money you'd save I'd be very tempted.

It seems that 997 Turbos are following the trend of 997 Carreras in that they are just an extension to the 996 family line and other than the fact that they are newer they are not seeen as any more valuable.

ie. An early 997 is worth a bit more than a very late 996 but does not carry a significant 'newer model' premium.

Given that the 991 Turbo won't be available until 2014 and will probably cost £125k I reckon that a 997 Turbo with a private plate would be an awesome car to own.

Good luck :thumb:

Thanks for the response, i pretty much agree with all you say, actually In the header it mentions the chrono pack so it ticks that box too, only problem is I'm 200 miles away, anyone reccomend a ppi guy in this area

Looks like a very good value for money car to me. Sports Chrono is visible in some of the pictures.

oops sorry

Not applicable in this case (as it has SC), but a few years ago non-SC Turbos were thousands less than SC equipped models (and took an absolute age to sell).

Now if you can pick one up with a chunky discount (and are prepared to stamp an explanatory loud and clear all over on any future sale spec) you can have the Sports Mode retrofitted for circa £500 from OPC.

Added bonus is no vulgar mantelpiece carbuncle and still all that lovely overboost :drive:

Only concern I would have is no mention of service history - you would think a 1 owner car would be ok but worth checking out

GT4 what do you mean "as long as you are prepared to stamp an explanatory load and clear all over any future sale spec" and on the subject I'm sure I have seen figures for retrofit SC for turbo as £1100 plus vat plus 1 hr labour.

Apologies, I posted the standard Sport Mode upgrade.

Full price list is:

Manual Transmission - £570 + VAT and Fitting (1hr)
Tiptronic Transmission - £780 + VAT and Fitting (1hr)
997 Turbo (w/o Sp. Chrono) - £1110 + VAT and Fitting (1hr)

Etc

The comment re: explanatory note is that 95% people know 5% about SC/Sport mode and assume it needs the dash clock.

That is the reason for the non-SC discount.

Hence if you don't want your eventual sales advert to be passed-over or discounted, you will need to shout that the car does actually have the all-important over-boost.

Spoke to the garage owner today who is selling this car for a friend, it has gained 7500 miles since the ad was posted, does have full OPc history however, gut tells me to leave alone..........any thoughts?

1 owner ........ but how many drivers :?:

If it's gained that many miles since the ad was produced I wonder how much else has also changed.

Early 997Ts are starting to appear more regularly and that price is only what they should be ...... great value for money but that one isn't a particular bargain.

This car has been reduced to £35k, and has had a full healthcheck, seriously tempting at that money, anyone seen the car, opinions at £35k?

It really does seem serious value for money. Maybe it's because it's not being sold at a specialist, maybe it's something more sinister :dont know:

Fact is (almost unbelievably) it's still priced at way over the trade value so isn't actually a bargain as such. It's just that nobody else is retailing one at that low a price.

If you're in the market for a 997T Jason it really should be worth a look. If it all checks out, and even if that 'healthcheck' invoice seems ok, I'd still get an independent PPI done before parting with my cash.

Good luck :thumb:

Out of intrest, what would be the trade price on such a car?

Thanks

Jason
