2006 Porsche 997 Carrera 2S

PostPosted: Sat Apr 28, 2012 5:35 pm    Post subject: PASM Error after removing PCM 2.1 Reply with quote

Took my PCM 2.1 unit out today to see what the cables behind there were so I could figure out what I needed to buy to fit my Pioneer head unit.

While pleasantly surprised to find that Porsche use ISO connectors, so the Pioneer plugs straight in (I have the ASK amp, not BOSE) if you use permanent 12v for both inputs (need to find a switched 12v). When I started the car I got a PASM error and the sport button doesn't work Sad I thought it was maybe an error from not having the PCM in, so I re-connected the PCM 2.1 to check but no miracle fix.

I was very careful removing everything, followed a guide step by step to remove the trim and get the PCM out. My car has a parrot kit installed, so there was a few extra cables already there, which I stripped out as I won't need it as the Pioneer has BT built in. Have checked all the connectors, including the one into the back of the PASM switch unit, all fine - the PSM and rear spoiler switches work so it is connected OK.

One thing I did notice was that who ever installed the Parrot kit took a switched 12v from one of the wires behind the fan controller (blue.black wire i think). This was working before I started poking about, but is now not working either as I had tried to use it to switch the Pioneer but it didn't work and I checked it with a meter - no power.

Tried disconnecting the battery, caused a PSM error! After a few ignition cycles that disappeared thankfully, but PASM error still there.

I noticed someone else had had a similar experience when installing a mobridge unit but there was no final resolution posted on that thread Sad

Have also noticed people mention failures in wet weather...didn't get an error when I moved the car into the garage to start working on it - but maybe moving it was enough for water to get into a switch? Have left it in the garage to dry out (plus the guts of the centre console are still hanging out!!)

Any thoughts, or am I best to find a local specialist who can find out what is throwing the fault code? Wouldn't mind as much if it was stuck in Sport!

I had a similar problem when I disconnected the battery and was told if I drove the car for approx 100 metres the code would go off and the car would reset itself, tried and it worked. Worth a go.

I did go out for a blast around the block, tried to make the suspension work a bit by turning tight and putting some load on the corners. Still got the PASM light Sad

Also noticed a loud fan noise when the engine was running in the garage. Not sure if that is normal as I've never run it in the garage before and so just may not have heard it if it was on while outside.
