I went for an annual inspection and to have 2 tyres fitted which I supplied. They charged me €126 just to fit 2 tyres. Seems a bit steep to me as a local fitter would charge around €10 a pop.
Also after the service the car was also not washed; the wheels were a real pain to clean when I got back home due to the grubby mechanics finger prints left all over them combined with the compound they use to mount them. Is this normal Porsche protocol
Only plus was I was offered a coffee or water
Anyway a few gratuitous pics from the day's events:
Luck was back on my side when I got back home though as my new SSK arrived so I spent 2 hours fitting this:

That looks suspiciously like Mainz OPC - the clue is in the MZ number plates!! Sad to say that I had very much the same experience when I had my winter wheels/tyres fitted there - the brand new wheels (supplied pristine by me) looked really grubby when they'd finished and they couldn't be bothered to wash the car either. Nice coffee though...
I'll be there next week to get my summer rubber back so here's hoping for a better service...

That's a fair trek for you then, I had you pegged living somewhere along the Mosel from some of your earlier posts so this must be quite out of your way? Or was it just an excuse to open the taps on the unlimited sections?

I live in Traben-Trarbach on the mosel so it is around 115km. It was my first drive this year and I don't need much of an excuse open her up. I only managed to get upto 235km today mind as the traffic was a bit heavy and it was damp. I take it you're a little closer to Frankfurt? _________________ CLR996 1086kg bespoke design

Mainz Altstadt, so about 5 minutes from the OPC. I'm often up your way in my car or on my bike when the sun is shining - a real hidden gem with some fantastic roads

I don't think I'd ever use a official manufacturer dealership to change something like the tyres, that goes for any marque.
As to answer your question, yeah you've had your pants taken down.
How do the short shifter compare IYO to the standard item ?? _________________ 2010 Basalt Black 997 Carrera S - 'J-Lo 2'

I'm one of the few here that didn't actually mind the throw of the standard setup. With the SSK kit installed I would say the 30% shorter throw also translates to 30% extra notchiness when cold. I like to make sure the selected gear in home in an 'overly deliberate manner', so this notchiness is not particularly concerning. If you will, as a comparison, it is like a gated H-pattern on Ferrari's of old (Testarossa for example). When engine oil pressure is below 2BAR the more direct/less sloppy feel is a treat; if you are contemplating spending £50 and have 2 hours free, I would not hesitate _________________ CLR996 1086kg bespoke design

€120 to change just 2 tyres (OPC) does sound rather expensive, UK OPC price is about £125 to change all 4 tyres from what I remember.
PS: I love the "P O R S C H E" lettering on the back of your 996, looks very cool _________________ 2007 997.1 GT3

ETA in my post above that I meant OPC prices - most local garages do charge around £10 per corner, but I've had alloys damaged in the past by the local monkeys - I now get my tyres changed at OPC only _________________ 2007 997.1 GT3

There really is no need to pay OPC prices or go to the trouble of getting to one if it's out of your way, just find a good independent tyre specialist with the correct kit and you will be more than fine. _________________ 1999 911 Carrera 4 manual

Well, I decided to roll the dice and switch back to summer tyres a little earlier than most, but the weather is already very mild and the return of snow seems unlikely...
For a simple swap of 4 wheels (and a nice cup of coffee) I'm now €120 lighter, but that does include storage of my winter wheels and the reassurance that the centrelocks were removed and replaced correctly!
They left the door looking very grubby with handprints, but overall I thought they did an ok job

They seem to have let a school boy out of class early to take a look over a 997 Turbo _________________ 2010 Basalt Black 997 Carrera S - 'J-Lo 2'
